Problems with new nvidia drivers...

Postby Red_Kite » Wed May 31, 2006 6:57 pm

I don't know if anyone else has had this, but I've just installed the new 91.28 beta forceware drivers for my 6800GS. Everything else works fine except for FS9! When I start it up the menu screen is squashed to the left and I can't select any options to do anything!

Should I reinstall or wait for a fix from nvidia?   ???

Just because there is a driver update  it might not work correctly with your video card. Some of the updates are meant for the newer cards and will not work right with the older models. You can do 2 things,
1). contact nvida to see if the update is for your specific card
if so what is the problem with it and why does it not work for your card.
2). roll back your drivers for your video card.
I would suggest option 2. I see this a lot people find out there is a updated driver for there card and download with out checking to see if it is the correct one for there specific card.
The best way to handle this is to set a restore point before you install the new driver that way if it does not work all you have to do is to restore to that point . This is the best way to deal with any software that you want to install that you are not 100% sure if it is right for you esp. when it comes to any driver. 8)

By installing beta software you agree to act as a beta tester. You have beta tested these drivers against FS9 and discovered they don't work together. Roll them back.  ;)

Thanks for your replies, however I got it working! I think the problem is as much to do with the fact that my new 19" tft had to be returned for a fault and I'm back with my 17" crt. I keep getting "ATTENTION OUT OF RANGE" errors on every game until I manage to lower the resolution back down to 1024x768 now that I've changed back to my old monitor. I haven't a clue what all this is about , but I'll be glad when I get my new 19" back for sure!

...Except that it was displaying these higher resolutions quite happily before I bought the 19" monitor! That's what I don't understand. It is a iiyama and will display very high desktop resolutions if I want.

Maybe something to do with the video card becoming confused? Any more thoughts?
