have you tried the latest nvidia drivers: www.nvidia.com

Or the latest ones available on dells site?

Gpu clock: 475mhz core, 800mhz mem
CPU at: 12.5x175 = 2187.5
memory: 2.5, 3, 3, 8 Duel channel on
Os: windows xp pro, ubuntu 5.10 breazy badger

I have a 5900xt (same generation) and it only goes upto 32bit colour aswell.  Is there any noticable differance between this and "true colour?"
