Jesus. I'm even bored by asking this question, but I'll give it a go anyway, even though I know the answer I think...

System (in a nutshell & not too 'techy'):
1.5g decent ram
Radeon X800 GTO (AGP) card
AthlonXP 2700+
Loads of space on my Hard Drive (decent HD and brand new)

Firstly...

In the quest for better frame rates (currently getting 25-35 FPS on high settings), is it my processor that's holding back the rest of my system?

Secondly...

I'm tempted to buy a new processor and motherboard. I want a mother board that's AMD compatible ('coz I'm gonna by one of those shiny 64 bit fuckers), but also with AGP and PCI-E slots. I've only just bought my X800 AGP and I'm not ready to buy another card yet, but I will one day and so I want to have the PCI-E option for when I need it. What motherboard should I get - is this one I found OK?

#4, no, it will still be on your HDD, ass long as you don't switch HDD's you'll be ok.

On Q4, You should look at getting a windows disk because using the old Windows install in a new system could cause some problems.

A 3500+ is good, but similar to a 3200+, a 3700+ is better in that it is an E4 core and runs cooler, overclocks better and has a full 1mb of L2 cache.

A 3800+ dual core is a budget X2 you could consider, but the stock clock speed is lower (same as the 3200+).

I would consider this well featured mainboard......

and i can vouch for that personally.

I had a 40gb hard drive i had in my old dell. when i sold my dell, i kept the hard drive, and threw it in my custom.

problems galore, in both windows and linux. drivewipe was the only option. since the only copy of windows i had was for dell, i had to spring for Windows XP x64. idk how long my license has to go, it's only 3 months.

I think MS are a little flexible on this point if you can convince them that the mainboard upgrade was system maintenance. At least I heard someone recently get a new number from MS phone staff for a switch that went bad on them.
