Runaway Printer

Postby Bubblehead » Tue Apr 11, 2006 12:06 am

How do I stop a "runaway" printer. I printed a screen using PrinDeskTop (a print screen program) pressing the appropriate keys only once. But the printer continued to print the same page over and over again. When I turned the printer off and turned it back on, it started printing again. I disconnected the USB and when I re-connected it started printing the same page again. Is there anything I can do to command the printer to stop printing? The printer is an HP 882C Deskjet.

When you click the button to print, did it not start right away and you click the button a few more times?

Reason i ask is that depending on the size of the file your printing it takes some time for it to transfer the info to the printer before it starts to print, thus meaning evey time you click the print button it is storing that you want another copy.

I did this once, thought my printer wasn't working and must have clicked print 100 times and when it finally started to print it wouldnt stop, lol.

To stop it look in your toolbar for the printer icon and right click it, you should find a option to "open printer folder" or something like that, open it up and it will show everything waiting to be printed and you can cancel there.

If that doesn't work sometimes a reboot will clear the memory of it.

Also I find that my HP is the hardest to get it to stop printing out of all the printers I have owned ;) Not to mention the bloated software that they make you think is required to run the printer when all you need is the drivers installed off the cd ;)

if the printer still prints after clearing the print folder you might need to clear its memory.  On epson printers this is acomplised by holding the change cartrige button down for 10s but on my grannies HP I had to hold down the power button for the same legnth of time.

I didn't press the printscreen more than once. However I found out how to cancel printing and it was as you described. I went to Control Panel, Printer, Right Click on icon, Open, File and Cancel printing. Must be some otherway of doing it quicker but  don't know.
