Vid card Selection

Postby michaelmichael » Sun Mar 05, 2006 9:23 am

Some info please

thinking of upgradind vid card but uncertain as to type and value

this is what i have now Geforce Mx 4000 cfs2 gets me 35-60 fps depending where and how i fly. settings aax2, anitropic x2
resolution 1074x764

pc 1.6
ram pc133 512mgs
exp home sp2

here is what i am looking at
BFG Geforce 6600Gt OC 128MB  AGP/PCI           $275 Canadian
3D Fuzion Geforce FX5500      256MB AGP/PCI    $100 Canadian
3D Fuzion Geforce 6200          128MB AGP         $115 Canadian    350 coreclock
ATI Radeon 9550                   256MB AGP          $150 Canadian

i would think that the BFG card is likely the best  but what about the others.

any help in choosing my next card would be appreciated

Ok this is gonna hurt ya, but the best usable card for you is more like the FX5600/Radeon 9550. Anything more and you wont really be using it. Most ppl i wouldn't recomend this to, but the SD is really a bottleneck, I suggest a new mother board, ram, and cpu. IF you want to get video cheap get the intergrate 6150 from nvidia, it will hold ya over unless ya can afford a stand alone card. Now if your just doing a video card get the 9550 the 5500 is slower than an MX4000 the 5500 is actully a 5200 overclocked. But id recomend if you can aford it to just replace the main parts.

The first time I ever agree with Candel. Yes your system is too underpowered to really put any card of use in it.

Thanks guys for all your help. ya looks like iy will hurt a bit. i can live with the present system for CFS2 because i get 30 to 60 Fps but virtually all other games are a stuttering and often freezing the system as well as the grasphics being less than optimal

thanks again guys
