Strange discovery about stuttering

I just discovered a very strange thing...

When flying over my hometown, Kalmar, Sweden in a Mooney Bravo at a rather low altitude I discovered this...

When circling over the airport in summer with fair weather, I have a framerate of about 60 in VC and 0,75 zoom, and it stutters a lot.

Then I just thought I'd like to change season to winter and use winter wonderland, and then my framerate dropped to about 35-40 in VC and 0,75 zoom, but here is the VERY strange thing, the stutters is almost completely gone!!!

It was snowing for crying out loud, and the framerate was so much lower, and the stuttering is almost completely gone...

I can't figure this one out...

why don't you try setting the frame limeter to 32'ish and seeing if all your stutter problems are gone?

No, seriously, I've tried that but it doesn't make any differense. And if I limit the framerate to, let's say, 35, then it doesn't run smoothly, even though 35 fps should be smooth, and it still stutters. But between the stutters it runs more like I have about 20 fps.
Don't know why, but I've heard that some cards work best with unlimited framerates and others run best with framerates limited, so, I guess mine runs best with framerates unlimited.

Try locking the frame rate to 25 and see if it smooths out with render to texture unchecked, AA unchecked and trilinear filtering enabled.


it sounds like it could be a high alpha texture load issue. I get that if I circle Fly Tampa's KSEA. The first time around the airport it can stutter and the second time around it doesn't because the bloated alpha laced textures are loaded in the memory.

also, when snow and rain are present the video card does not process the environement the same which does reduce the load on the card.

Whenever I get stutter, it's usually due to other programs running in the background.. so, a lack of RAM (I have 768, which is sufficient for running the sim alone). It may seem obvious, but just check that you've got nothing running hogging memory. The worst culprit for this is probably any form of instant messenger, namely, MSN. As soon as I close that, any stutter is gone.

I use FS Autostart and when I do I have between 800 and 850 mb memory available, and even without using FS Autostart I have between 700 and 750 mb available so it can't be a memory or CPU problem.

I use Saitek X45 controls but either way, it stuttered as much before I got them.

I doesn't matter how many times I circle the stutters remain.
Limiting the framerate doesn't help either, and if I do limit them to 25, the sim doesn't run smooth between the stutters either.

I don't know what to do.  ???
