My computer died again

today we mourn the loss of yet another dynasty of my computer....

yesterday, after almost a whole year without any problems, we found it unable to load windows... even in safe mode....

winxp wont install on a used HD....
the only solution: format :o :o

but a problem has come up, one that i didn

I recently had the same problem. Boot in safe mode, and run a defragmentation, and you should be good. Thats what I did and it worked fine.

wont load in safe mode ctjoyce.... Yea the new hard drive with the old one on Secondary it should load up data, unless the hard drive fried (sounds like your prob) and if thats the case, your outta luck, But if the old one still works, data will show up.... Cheers, Gunny

hi there... back again.... things are looking better now :)

i installed the new hard drive and put windows on it... then i added the broken HD as a secondary device and IT WORKED :D :D :D :D

i got all my files back... now im gonna sort out what is garbage and what im gonna need, then i will format my old drives and begin the new generation ;D

this solution worked perfectly well... i

$55 for a new WD 80GB SATA isnt too much ;) However if your secondary drive now works see if you can use it as file storage (stuff you need, but dont care about).

Very nice.

One thing I started doing was makeing DVDs of all my important data, so if my drive were to crash again I'll still have all the stuff I need.

Keep the 20gb drive, it's handy for diagnostics, an extra loaded op sys for emergencies, swapping file collections with friends etc. You can also keep a backup folder of FS9 on there if you want.
