System Restore Failure

Hey Guys and Ladies,  Sure wish everyone a happy day today .   I'm in need of help and don't really know who to turn to .   Perhaps you'll can help.  I don't know for sure , but I think I downloaded something that hurt my PC  ???   In any case I can't use my  "settings" in the restore program.  Here is what keeps coming up on the screen:      [  The procedure entry point   Do Open Pipe Stream   could not be located in the dynamic link library   Scr Run.dll.   ]      I've tried reinstalling the drivers - - -no help.     I do have the re install disc that came with the Gateway  PC.   Any suggestions as to what I can do next.   [ Other than what I'm thinking of doing  ]    ;D  Do appreciate your help.          caveman

Dump the gateway.  But, seriously though.  How far back did you attempt to restore to?  Also, you can use your XP disk to repair your OS without wiping everything.  See, this is why I reformat at least every six months.  I also keep backup CD's of all files that I don't want to loose and update them weekly and am running 2 hard drives.  If your system restore isn't working properly there is a good chance that something in your system32 folder has been corrupted but using the XP disk to repair might fix it for you.

Thanks  Gary,   I do back-up my files w/DVDs often.  I try to keep everything possible on the DVDs and have them indexed like a library. I only  "run" copies of what I need or use at the time.   The  Gateway will only be used for  "on-line" soon. [ Be getting a new PC soon ]      What bothers me is losing all my  "on line " addresses. I don't know how to COPY them to DVD disk. Like many of the simmers - - - -  I've tons of addresses I'd hate to lose.     Will give your suggestion a try as soon as I get up the nerve ..       Appreciate your help.       caveman

Never had the problem but I did get some BAD spyware, I got it and vowed it was not gonna make me reformat. I got stubborn and said I will not reformat I will not let this crap win. Guess what I was doing a week later...

If your talking about your Favorites bookmarks (saved URLs), then you can easily back that up and transfer it to a new installation. For IE, use the File > import/export tool. For Firefox, use the bookmarks > manage bookmarks > export. In the new installation, import the file back and you're back the way you had it. You can do the same thing with email contacts, whether in Outlook or a web-based service.

 Hey Weather_man,  Thanks for your help.    I'll give this a try.  Wished  I  had your help a few years ago,   lost all my addresses on my first PC  when it died.  Didn't know how to "back-up"  addresses then .      caveman
