LCD Monitors

Postby BFMF » Mon Dec 26, 2005 1:22 am

I'm looking at buying an LCD monitor and found a Samsung 940B-black 19" 8ms LCD Monitor for $335

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6824001066

I've never owned an LCD monitor, and i'm getting tired of my 7 year old 15" CRT monster, which is one of three items I still have for my computer from the time I originally built my system. I'm skeptical because i've heard many mixed reviews about LCD monitors. My mom recently bought a new computer which came with an LCD monitor, and it seems just fine.

I'm aware of the issue with the response time, but I found this monitor with a response time of only 8ms.

What are your opinions of this monitor?

When shopping for LCD monitors, is there anything I need to look for, avoid, or be carefull of?

I just changed from CRT to LCD.  I highly recommend it!

I picked up a 17" ACER AL1716.

Basically for response time less than 16ms is good.  For contrast ratio get atleast 500:1.  Make sure the company is reputable.  Dead pixels are your worst nightmare.  I don't have any on mine, but are highly annoying if you do get some.  Check with people who have already bought that display before to see if they have ever had problems.

That's about it is think! ;)

Atleast 500:1? So is 700:1 better or worse?

700:1 is better, but comes at a cost, also you will probably not notice the difference between 700:1 and 500:1 unless you do graphics editing etc... ;)

The contrast ratio is the difference between the brightest white and the darkest black.  The greater the contrast ratio the greater the difference.
