Problem configuring X52... Any gurus around?

Postby Soulmoon » Sun Dec 18, 2005 1:38 pm

Ok, curse you all... I finally splurged on the X52. Slightly early Christmas gift to myself. I've only flown a little bit with it, but I'm already in love.

I have a few issues though.

1) I tried to bind the two knobs on the throttle (The big one on top, and the little one near the mouse nipple thingy) to mixture and prop pitch, respectively. Prop pitch works, kinda, but the range is off... Like I never calibrated it, but I did when I first installed it. It goes from around 10% prop pitch to a max of about 75%. The top knob doesn't seem to respond to effect mixture at all, but I know the knob is working (It shows up in the out-of-game configuring stuff)

2) I've always had "Brakes" bound to Joy 1, which is the trigger button. It still works, but only when I first pull the trigger... They don't stay on as long as I hold the trigger, I have to keep pulling the trigger about once a second. Not a HUGE problem, I'm thinking of switching brakes to the pinky trigger anyhow.

3) The very bottom end of the throttle axis seems a little iffy... With the throttle all the way down, watching the axis monitor in Windows, it still seems to bounce around 2-4 percent constantly. I cut about the bottom top and bottom 5% of the throttle range out with the deadzone adjuster, so it works fine, basicly, but this is still a little annoying that I'm basicly forced to loose that throttle range. Has anyone experienced this? Any solutions?

Thanks in advance...

I just got my X52 Friday...but have noticed the exact same thing with the trigger. The fix is in the advanced programming if you are using the profiles. I noticed that the key-repaet rate seem to be defaulted to around 0.6 seconds. I haven't played with those functions yet, so I can't offer much guidance.

Mine doesn't share the axis issue you describe, so no insight there from this end.

I did learn one thing...I hat the profile for FS9 that comes from Saitek. I would never look for some of the controls where they put them!

Yeah, I glanced at the default profile. Blech.

The problem with the throttle seems to have worked itself out with some more calibration.

Still no luck with the other issues, though I'll give repeat rate a try.

Have you noticed any issue with Slew mode now? It might be just that I've got something bound where it shouldn't be bound, I don't know, but going into slew mode causes my plane to start to spin around insanely.

I'm gonna clear my profile and start over, methinks.

I never use slew...would never notice if it did good things, let alone bad. :)

Honestly, I haven't done much flying with the X52 yet. My previous stick was an X45 and it pretty much deprived me of playing MechWarrior 4 because I couldn't get used to the toggle for rudder control and MW4 can't use a second controller.

The X52 give me back a twist rudder control for MW4 and allows me to lock it out for using the pedals in FS.

Best of both worlds.

Next job is to make a custom FS profile and then one for CFS.
