Router serious problems! NEED HELP!

Postby Jimbo » Mon May 23, 2005 6:16 pm

Hey"

Im not happy today!...

My netgear router decided to nearly die today because whilst i was upgrading the firmware versions the cable bl&&dy fell out, and now the thing is corrupt. It wont let me access the settings page because of this, so basically the router has died in respect, but im sure it can be brought back to life again. I'v tried resetting it with the small pin hole, that had no effect!
Has anyone got any advanced Netoworking skills to help me, as im having to use the adsl modem that came with my pc, and whilst im typing, i'm probally get hacked

Well im ive got up to CCNA22 cirtis but anyways I doubt your router was providing much security so dont worry about haacked much more...unless Netgear has a separate update device out side of set up page I think your pretty srcrewed. Don't updae that stuff unless you need to.

Once the firmware is screwed, you need to send it back to the company for repair.

I'm curious, how did the cable fall out?

If you can't reset to defaults, then there's nothing more you can do yourself since you can't access the menu. Either send it for service or buy a new one.

Have you tried leaving it unplugged for awhile, like overnight...

I know it's a long shot but stranger things could happen

It's EEPROM... and to be more precise the non-volatile part that has been messed up

Usual EEPROM has 3 zones:
Read only bootup stuff
writable non volatile (that's what the firmware update changes)
Writable volatile (the stuff that is deleted when the power is down long enough)
