Postby Mynameisnemo » Sat Apr 30, 2005 11:19 pm

first of all need some advice on me computer,
i am runnin a:
P3 coppermine 800 mhz
20 GB HDD
52x CD-Rom
184mb Ram
Nvidia Riva TNT 2 Model 64 PCi Graphics card,
Logitech Attack3 Joystick.

which would i be better off upgrading the motherboard / processor, or the memory/graphics card????

Secondly i just want to say that FS2004 is the best flight sim out there at the moment, just bought it today and i am over the moon with it,   ;D i'm so used to FS98 that the actual aircraft are more astheticly pleasing to the eye,

this is my first post btw.

Processer and mobo. They are getting a little old, and as your card is still kinda at todays standirds your fine there
Personally ide get

Mobo: Anything by Asus (Socket LG775)
Processer: P4 3.2Ghz northwood (unless your case is really cool then go with a Prescott and HT0
GFX: ATi Radeon x800 (your not going to have to buy another card for atleast the next four years)
HDD: 200G Seagate or Western Digital

Hope this helps, but seriously upgrade the brains before you upgrade the eyes and memory of your monster

cheers

...alternatively...
If you are strapped for cash...

Install FS 2002, and try experimenting with the settings.
It should run fine on your system...my old computer, (AMD 850MMX),  did... 8)... ;D...!

Cheers...!

imho trying to upgrade that system is going to be a waste of time. If you can afford a new PC then great, if not you're probably better off waiting untill you can.

For a cheap rig you will need:

PSU = ATX v.2 (450w+ ?) in some sort of cheap case.

Late chipset mainboard= nForce2 based for "el cheapo"

CPU= AMD XP2800+

RAM= 512mb (single stick) or 1024mb (dual matching 512mb ) PC3200 - 400mhz DDR

video card= nvidia 6600GT

The rest you can scavenge from your old rig, but you need more hard disk space really.

For a bit more, it would be well worth buying an nForce4 ultra chipset based mainboard and a new Venice cored CPU.

You dont need a soundcard, fancy case etc, etc..... better to spend the dough on a great chipset, CPU and video card, the rest can come later.

Generally speaking, you can't build a good computer with decent performce in modern games (fs2004 included) for under a 1000 USD.
