My card is screwing up

i hope you guys can help me out again

my problem:
about  a week ago, something strange happened while flying the sim. everything was going as usual, then i swithced to spot plane view and noticed that the graphics suddenly looked like hell. everything was jaggy as if AA was suddenly switched off completely. i then went into the menu and checked the settings, which were all fine, went back into the game and everything was normal again. this happened from then on, quite alot and would always change pack to normal when i changed the view, or changed to the menue and back . needless to say, it pissed me off quite badly, so i thought i might try different drivers (i was using the latest omega drivers, my card is a 9800pro). so yeterday i changed the drivers to the latest official catalyst drivers and it sure did change. now if i switch from 2d panel to spot plane it looks like this :

and again, when i press alt and wait a few seconds, it changes back to normal again .

please, if you could help me out here i'd really appreciate it! this is driving me insane

my specs:
intel celeron 2.4 ghz, 1gb ddr pc2700 ram, windows xp sp1, ati radeon 9800pro, sony 17" tft monitor, fs9.1, anti-aliasing is on 6x and anisotropic on 16x

I think you're probably having a driver clash. There is a simple cure for this.

Download Driver Cleaner from here: http://www.drivercleaner.net/dc.htm

1 - Set it aside for now. Shut down Windows and reboot in Safe Mode. (Press F8 on the startup screen, which comes up with a screen with several options such as Safe Mode, Command Prompt etc.).

2 - When in Safe Mode, open up the Control Panel, then open up the System icon. Select the hardware tab and open Device Manager from there.

3 - Go into Display Adapters, right click on your graphics card (if there is a secondary, do NOT UNINSTALL THAT) and click on Uninstall. On the warning box that comes up, click yes.

4 - Then go into Add/Remove Programs, uninstall 'ATi Display Driver' and the Omega ones too.

5 - Restart in normal mode and run Driver Cleaner. Don't worry if your screen looks different (e.g. different resolution) or if you get warnings stating you should install new drivers for your VGA card. Just close them, as you're going to install the drivers anyway.

6 - Clean all ATi drivers (there is a scroll box there that had ATI as an option). After you've done this, install the OFFICIAL ATI DRIVERS!

7 - Restart and hey presto, everything should be fine!

Have you OC'd your card at all? When I unlocked the extra vertex shaders on mine I had artifacts. Seems there was dodgy silicon there, so i had to step down to stock again. Pixel pipes worked fine tho.

thanks for the replies guys

rob, i did everything you said but it somehow made it worse . i did a reinstall of the agp drivers and direct x aswell. when i started the sim, it seemed again that AA wasn't working, everything jaggy (but the settings were fine in the ati menue). ingame settings were all maxed. then when i closed the sim, my desktop resolution showed at 800x600
i rebooted again, checked all the settings and restarted the sim. this time it looked fine, so i was happily starting my flight. in game, i switched right to spot plane to check the graphics and....it reboots my pc .
so i restarted again and this time i didn't even get into the cockpit, it just crashed and didn't respond. so...restart again

i don't know what to do anymore, this is so bad

oh and dan, i didn't even overclock

oh, wait rob, you said ignore the boxes warning me i should install the agp drivers. i had to install them because the driver setup always quit and told me it can't proceed without installing the agp drivers first

No, Yurei, I think you're confused. You must close all the warning boxes and install the drivers manually, i.e. click on the ATI icon to install the drivers.

EDIT: I've refined the above post. Make sure you do everything correct to the word!  :)

mhmm...i don't know, i downloaded the drivers from the ati website and run the setup. i didn't know that was wrong . ok, so should i start everything again? sorry to keep bothering you with this rob, i really am quite hopeless when it comes to this stuff

Yes start over completely. These precedures work as when I was helping elwellnick24 when he was having driver problems, this is exactly what I told him to do and it worked. Make sure you do everything inch-perfect.  :)

ok, then just do a system restore to a date before this problem came about and just install the latest official drivers, with no need for safe mode.
