ATI Cooler

Postby Yurei » Sun Mar 27, 2005 3:04 am

ok guys, i don't know much when it comes to hardware so i need your help ;)

i was wondering if it would be a good choice to get a seperate cooling fan for my radeon 9800pro. from what i've read i'm not really sure just how necesserary those things are. i mean, will it just reduce the noise or will it actually give better performance through better cooling?
i haven't had this card for long but sometimes i'm just worried i'm frying it :P. but if it's more for the noise reduction, i wouldn't really need it.

any advice appreciated :)

The 9800 Pro came with a relatively small fan that was suitable for it. So, unless you've been overclocking it, there's no need to change the fan.  :)

ok thanks rob :)
and no i'm not overclocking, so it won't make a difference at all if i buy one? if it really won't, i'd be very happy to save the 20 pounds. but if it would even give a slight improvement, i would consider it

No improvement unless you overclock.

So no improvement with fan chnage.

if i overclocked my Radeon 9600XT would give me better graphics and frame rates? And what program would overclock it (if there is one)?

If you overclocked your 9600 XT (which I don't recommend, as it comes with an primitive cooler), then it would give you better frames.

You could overclock it with Rivatuner or ATI Tools, both available from Guru3D

Cheers. :)

Well you can OC GFX cards much easyer and safley than you can CPUs, why well temperatures are not as big of a concern, if you overclock your card right you will artifact long before heat becomes and issue. All the better colling does is allow a higher OC....also changing the cooler voids any warrantee so if your not OCin you voided your warrantee for nothing...

if you really want to overclock your card and need a new fan get one of these http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 602&depa=0 they go in one of your PCI-E panels and work wonderfully (this is what i used to overclock my little sisters 9800 SE) easy to install and not at all loud, but man do they suck the air out of your case.
