Videocard... Wich one to choose...

I've been meaning to replace my Geforce ti4200 64 mb card somewhere in the near future...

But since i've just bought me a house i don't have insane amounts of cash lying around...

I was thinking about something along the line of

I have not heard of the X600 but I guess its ATI's answer to Nvidias 6600.

Either of these cards would do the job and be far better than your current card. Its just getting hold of one!!

If you want a new card now you are limited to a 9800pro or 9800xt really.  If you can wait then choose one of the mentioned above  ;D

I am not sure when these cards are being released but when they do release them lets hope they arrive in bigger batches than the 6800's and x800's have!!!
AMD64 3500+ @ 2200MHz 400FSB
MSI K8N Neo 2 mobo nForce3 chipset
1gig Corsair XMS PC3200 timings @ 10.2.2.2
XFX 6800 Ultra @ 450/1200
80gig HDD
Loadsa fans!!!

Yes the X600 is ATI's answer to the 6600. However its doing poor in benchmarks. ATI released an X700 as well which is equal the the 6600 but is outpreformed by the 6600GT.

Guru 3d did a basic stack up of the new cards using the Doom3 Benchmark at 1024x768res with no AA. Here's the top new cards in order from best to worst. Guru3d is  non-biased when it comes to rating cards. These rankings are pretty even across the board. I put the average frame rate for the best and worst. The standard 6600 wasn't included because they haven't had a chance to test it yet.

-Geforce 6800 Ultra Extream 105.6fps
-Geforce 6800 Ultra
-Geforce 6800GT
-Radeon X800XT Platinum
-Geforce 6800
-Geforce 6600GT
-Radeon X800 pro
-Radeon X700 XT
-Radeon 9800 XT
-Geforce FX5950
-Radeon 9800 Pro 128
-Geforce 5900 Ultra
-Radeon 9700 Pro
-Geforce FX5700 Ultra
-Radeon 9600 XT
-Radeon X600 XT 24.4fps

Looks like the tables have turned in the graphics card war putting nVidia on top with ATI getting the short end of the stick. I'd suggest going with the Geforce 6600GT or Radeon X800 pro if you don't want to spend a lot. The 6600GT AGP isn't out yet but it will be soon.

In spite of the years you have a very nice videocard...
I love Ti 4200...  In order to note a real and significant improvement probably you will need to jump to a  Nv6800.......  it is worth waiting some months..

Guess i'll have to wait a bit...

Those 6800 and X800pro cards go from 400 to 700(!) Euro's in Belgium... My girlfriend would kill me...  ;)

Well it isn't urgent at the moment, just playing with the taught.

I just hate those cardnames... you simply can't trust the "higher" number or memorycontent...  >:( Talk about me not seeing the threes trough the woods here.... Hmm, I hope that's an english saying to...  ;)
