Athlon at 1.83 Ghz

Postby terbert » Sun Sep 12, 2004 5:35 am

Hi all,

I appologise for my ignorance on this subject.

I have just installed an Athlon 2500XP and it is being picked up as 1.83Ghz. What does this mean?
My friend has installed an Athlon  2400XP and his says 2.00Ghz.
Not a major problem, i suspect, just wondered why a 2400 is higher than a 2500  ???

Hi Tony...!

My AMD 2600+ Thoroughbred-B runs at 2100 MHz as standard... ;)...!
(We'll have none of this "over-clocking)... :o.... ;D...!

I think it's something to do with comparing the speed of Intel processors with AMD processors.... ;)...!
(AMD rekon they are faster and more efficient, type for type)... 8)...!

Useful little prog to sit in your tray... ;D...!

Cheers Mate... ;D...!

Paul.

P.S. ..and if you want to go the whole hog...stick this in your tray as well...>>>

Maybe your friends is over clocked a bit.  If you have brought a 2500XP mobile chip then you should get good o-clock results from it too.

My old AMD 2800XP barton cpu run standard at 2083MHz.
AMD64 3500+ @ 2200MHz 400FSB
MSI K8N Neo 2 mobo nForce3 chipset
1gig Corsair XMS PC3200 timings @ 10.2.2.2
XFX 6800 Ultra @ 450/1200
80gig HDD
Loadsa fans!!!

The 2500 is a Barton it is clocked lower than the 2400 but will still out perform it, this is because it uses 333MHz FSB and not 266MHz.

The reason that AMD can perform aswell or better than Intel processors is because of the work done per cycle is higher.  AMD processors get through 3x more data per cycle, this explains the better game performance.

MY 2600 athlon is clocked to 2.25gig, my PC never crashes. Don't let anyone put you off clocking your processor. Athlons' love it. You have to remeber to treat it like a lady, push it too far & you will get a slap! I love clocking my PC, it is a great way to learn what you can & can't do. Having said, that you need to know what you are doing.
MSI K72N delta, 1 gig 333 RAM, Athlon 2.6 clocked to 2.25, 120gigHDD0 Service Pack 2, 80gigHDD1 Service pack 1, GeForce 5600 ultra, Antec plusview server case, lots of fans, lights & UV illuminatory devices!

You need good memory, at least 333, preferably 400. A good power supply, I would recommend a 550W, they are really cheap, mine only cost
