Isn't there a prog that allows you to do this?  Think it might be called ATI-Tool??

I'm not to hot an the ATI side of things though I know that 9800pro's are good cards.  Some clock real good though and some don't.

Apparently if you remove the H/S and see what core you have, if you have a certain one you can flash the cards BIOS too so it thinks its a 9800XT. R350 or R360 is playing on my mind cant remeber which though.

Im sure someone here is an ATI over-clocker so lets see what they can come up with.
AMD64 3500+ @ 2200MHz 400FSB
MSI K8N Neo 2 mobo nForce3 chipset
1gig Corsair XMS PC3200 timings @ 10.2.2.2
XFX 6800 Ultra @ 450/1200
80gig HDD
Loadsa fans!!!

There is a program. It's called "RadClocker". You can get it from www.guru3d.com.

maverick,

In the ATI video setup there is an option called "Overdrive" I think.  It overclocks the chip based on the temperature of the chip.... and keeps it overclocked to the max without overheating the chip.

Not sure if this is enought for you...... but one would assume that ATI knows how hot the chip should get for maximum longeviity.   ;)

I have a 9800 XT with the Overdrive (?) on.

best,

Skittles,

If you go into "Control Panel" and then select "Display" and then select "Settings" and then select "Advanced" you get the main ATI device screens that let you set stuff like Anti Aliasing and Ansoitropic Filtering and Resolution and Smart Shader and VPU Recover and all that kind of stuff.

(Doing this above from memory... forgive details being wrong on getting there

The overdrive feature overclocks the GPU if it feels that the temperature it is at is low enough for it to safely do so.  It only overclocks over the default setting and never declocks below it.  Also it is only the 9xxxXT models that get overdrive.  I am not sure about the XxxxXT or pro models.

The only experence I've had with overclocking is when my pc turned on and said "OVERCLOCKING FAILED"! I havent done any overclocking so I don't know what was going on! Anyway - this aint going to help anyone!

PS - Actually I did have something Qi to say:o I think the Overdrive is only available on the 9800XT models. I maybe completely wrong though :-X

Birdman,

I also had it on my 9600 that I had just before I bought the 9800.

I have gone thru 4 video cards (2 Nvidea, 2 ATI) in a year trying to get fs2004 running well.  The real problem appears to be that buying a new P4 2.42 gig 533 fsb last summer to run fs2004 just doesn't cut it  ;).

There is so an "overdrive" for the 9800 Pro. It's not available by default, but it is there. I can't remember how to make it available, but I've used it before.

When my defragging is complete I'll investigate.

ADDED(2): So far it seems the OverDrive was available with the OMEGA drivers for the 9800 pro... I'm running the UNIan drivers and I do have an overclocking tool, but nothing like the Overdirve I saw before.

You need to get the Omega drivers for your ATI card. They are the only things I use now. They are based on the latest ATI Catalyst drivers but they are tweaked, safely.

http://www.omegadrivers.net

I just got through downloading the latest Omega's for my 9800 along with upgrading DX to 9.0c. What a difference.

With the Omega's you get a new Control Panel so you have to remove ATI's Control Panel first. The Omega's come with a simple "Self Install" that completely overwrite the old drivers. (Done several times by me and never a problem yet.)

The Great News is, with this latest set you get a the new ATI Tool with which you can safely overclock your card. It will find your Max Core and Max Memory, SAFELY.

I ran it on my 9800 to find Max's on both Core and Memory, then set it back just a tad. Picked up several fps in FS2k4 at my test field.
