Hypothesis

Postby Dan » Sat Mar 13, 2004 2:44 pm

I am trying to get a Pentium II or similar to practice my building / overclocking skills on for either a very low price or free. (Unfortunatly Dad won't let me advertise here  >:() It will be installed in my bedroom. I would like to network it into the PC I am on now, in the room below mine. I want the internet on it, especially for a better (P4) machine later. Can i have Ethernet cable installed for the network and use this machine's modem to connect to the internet or do I need my own 'phone line to upstairs + my own modem?
Thanks, Dan

If you wire it up to the LAN, then set-up your internet connection to network.

Very well explained,Delta!

I use the internet access via network myself, but with a direct connection between my PC and my laptop. Works quite well and I can finally terrorize you with my posts without even leaving my bed! ;D

Would this (old) PC need to be switched on all the time?

Whichever one has the phoneline plugged into it will need to be on and connected to the net in-order for the other one to get onto the net.

If you want to read files from another comp on your own comp, they must both be on.
