Nvidia Geforce 5200 128mb with Intel 82845GV

Postby edward13 » Sun Jan 04, 2004 8:31 am

Does anyone know how good of an update the PNY Geforce 5200 128MB is with my current Intel 82845 GV graphics controller (64mb shared memory) . I am not sure wether to get an Nvidia Card or ATI card. Currently my FS2004 runs good with the "medium low" display configuration. But I want to run the game under the "ultra high" display configuration, in order to enjoy the game as best as I can.
Thanks
Edward

I've got the PNY GeForce FX5200 128 MB on my system, and it runs well.  With everything maxed (and I mean EVERYTHING), I'm getting about 10-15 fps in spot over cities.

If I drop some stuff just a hair, then I get well over 20.

It would depend on the rest of your system though, post your specs?
Great edit, Bob.

Same here I just recently purchased the same card for less than $100.
So far I'm quite pleased with it, I run will just about everything maxed out and get consistent frame rates 15-39,
with a occasional drop to 11 FPS but in all beats the heck out of the ATI I replaced!!
While on the topic I have the 53.03 drivers from Nivida, has anyone prefered the Omega drivers in the past to the Nvida ones? I'm waiting for the new Omega's to come out but am curious about if they are worth changing too if the ones i have seem to do well?!

Not sure....for the year and a half since I got this new box, I've been running on-board graphics....the change over has been measurably better.

Since I don't know much about the hardware end of things, will different drivers create better images in some cases?  Or more fps?
Great edit, Bob.

The Drivers are important, but they are not a magical cure for any video card...

Video cards are limited by 4 factors in this order:

1. Graphics engine, the video chip itself, the heart of the card.

2. The RAM on the video card, first the speed, then the amount.

3. The Platform, your PC, is it powerful enough for the Card?

4. The drivers
