GeForce FX5600 AGP...

Postby Wing Nut » Thu Jul 10, 2003 10:21 pm

I have a two part question for this...

First, is anyone using a GeForce FX5600 AGP?  It sounds too good to be true.  256mb for 250.00?  I am leaning heavily towards it.

Second, if I have shared memory now, is there anything I need to do when I install the new card to free up that RAM?

I put this thing on layaway today.  Who would figure you'd find a 256mb card at Wal-Mart of all places  ::)  Actually Wally-World is getting pretty good on their computer stuff.  I'll post more on this in another posting though.  $258.00 for a 256 mb video card.  Wow!

It's good to hear that the GeforceFX series preforms really well. I'm still waiting for my 5200. I emailed the store I bought it from and they said that they sent it over a week ago. Last time I use FedEX.

If you haven't already done this....here is the process....you need to go in and physically install your new card, then install the drivers for it, but as soon as its running on the new card, you can go into your bios and disable your shared video and that will be the end of your misplaced system RAM........

Ken, If I don't disable it, will that RAM be added to the card's memory, or will it just be wasted?  I have plenty of RAM to spare (1 gig, going to expand it to 1.5), and to tell the truth, I'm a little leary of messing aroung with my BIOS.  I really do want to install this myself, as I've never done it.  I installed the extra RAM, and an additional hard drive, so I think I could do this...
