Frame rates

Can anyone of you explain me what are frame rates, and what would be the best settings to have the best performance?

Just like TV or a film strip movie, a computer displays an still image, followed by a slightly different still image, and so on. This gives the illusion on motion. If you are getting 20fps (Frames Per Second), that means your computer is showing 20 of these still images every second.

There are a variety of ways to improve frames. You may want to contact Ramsa, he's the flightsim preformance guru on this forum. He usually hangs around the Raw Screenshots forum.

Depends on your system and what you want.  The human eye needs abut 30 FPS or more to not see any jumping between frames.   Because we don't know your system specs, we can't really let you know what you should be getting.  I have a 1.2 GHz Celeron and 384 MB or SD RAM, and integrated video.  I can run medium display settings such as texture sizes, complexities, ect. and get 10 FPS on the ground and 15-20 in the air at 1024X768 resolution, or 15 on the ground, 30 + in the air at 640X480.  I really can't see much of a quality difference between the two.  Usually, I can handle about 14 FPS, but the higher you set your display settings, the slower you will run.  It also comes down to experimenting with your settings to find the one that works best for youI wouldn't set everything to minimal unless you have a POS computer.  Otherwise you would see not much more than solid tan ground with a runway on it. No trees, no buildings, no nothing.

why don't you buy a cheap graphics card like a geforce 4 MX (~70 US $) or a geforce 4 Ti 4200 (~130 US $). every graphics card is better than integrated video... ;)

I do have an MX 440 on layaway for $69.  I've been waiting a long time to get one, and I'm finally getting the money for one, albeit slowly.  I know it isn't the best and is just a PCI.  But my argument has always been, I don't have the money to upgrade the MB, then the processor, memory, and graphics card with it.  I'm glad you suggest that, it gets anoying sometimes.

Dont waste your money on a pci graphics card. you will regret it.

Turn down your settings in fs2002 for a faster frame rate.

Save your money, sell your system, get a mainboard with agp graphics like this one:

http://www.soltek.com.tw/English/product/75frn-r.htm

This mainboard comes with onboard graphics that are similar to the GF4 MX 440 and also has an AGP slot for an addon card. It is up to date, and has onboard sound, LAN, and many more features. There are many similar boards in production with new models on the way. RAM and CPU's are powerful and cheap now.
