Unexpected performance

Postby Rivers » Tue Mar 04, 2003 11:15 pm

I posted this in tweaking & overclocking but no one goes there i think.
hello
I've just upgraded my pc but i guess i'm not geting everything i can from it. I also  downloaded the latest drivers for my card (from the manufaturer  Nvidia driver 41.07).I get about 18 or less fps when i'm at meigs with all sliders to the max and FS2k2 fresh install.
My 3DMark2001SE score is 10579.
System specs in the signature.

Try removing the soundcard in device manager and reinstalling it again, I just fixed a major framerate drop this way with my soundblaster card. I know it sounds weird but it worked for me. Same deal with me in 3Dmark 2001, It scored high but fs2002 was terrible.

Good Luck.

Hi,

I was having trouble getting my SB live! 5.1 sound card to work right in fs2002 usning windows me and I came across this topic and did what congo sugested and it worked.

My question is, What has the sound card got to do with fs2002 perfromance?
Best Regards,
Selby

airplane. dad flew a real one
in the war] the model file is 1.6m

Good to hear it worked out.

Selbiodln, performance in FS2002 can be dramatically affected by sound. Just watch your frame rates when you turn the sound off in the settings. If a driver is malfunctioning or conflicting, serious frame rate loss can become evident.

The reason is that sound is heavily dependant on the CPU for processing. This is why a good sound card\chip is important, a good sound chip will reduce load on the CPU, allowiing it to process the math calculations and video information.

Only when a CPU is fast enough to cope with all the demands placed on it, is fast gaming performance possible. A slow front side bus speed, weak CPU, Soundcard, Videocard or slow or insufficient ram will hold up an otherwise fast system.
