grapics card advice?

Postby phil509 » Tue Apr 29, 2003 6:35 pm

I want to get a new graphics card-here's my system:EMachines T1090,900mhz intell celaron,128mb RAM,20gb hard drive, and the current graphics card is Intell 3D AGP(which sucks) What would you "GURU'S"out there recomend to do a good job on this rather limited machine?Mostly what I want is good eye candy without the program being choppy,as it is now.At present, the best frame rates I get are around 10-12,with all settings on low,and this is unacceptable-what would Ya'll suggest? ??? :( :( :o
To bad I cant make a living out of this, but it would probably kill me.

I'd suggest 2 options. Firstly play around with your settings and see what you can get.
Secondly contact Ramsa (he normal is found around the raw screenshots forum dazzling everyone with his work), and he is such a totally brilliant bloke I'm sure he can fix you up with something awesome!

If money is no problem get a GeForce FX, but every body is saying it haves some problems ,so I would  go for the ATI Radeon 9800 pro but if you cant burn US$500 you can still find some GeForce 4 Ti for a good price. I used to have a Pentium III 1Ghz with voodoo video card, when I bought my Geforce 4, Fs2K2 seemed to be a new sim + better Fps

Sadly,  $500 is a little steep for me.What I saw at the local retailers went like:32's-$70,64's-$120 to $170,and the 128's-$200&up.I dont need top 'O the line, but just something good enough for FS2K2 to run smoothly. As I am now, takeoffs and landings are difficult because the program is very choppy. Thanks for your suggestion! Im doing my homework and shopping! :) :( :( 8)

I'm surprised no one else mentioned this yet, but you really need more ram.  I would get that over the video card if you can afford only one, unless it is a good vid card.  I was running 128 MB ram (SD RAM at that) and added another 256MB to that and it made a noticable difference.  I'm currently running Celeron 1.2 GHz with 384 MB SD RAM and intigrated video, which I hope to soon be upgrading.  If you are running XP, it alone will try to eat up your 128 MB, so if you run any other programs, you will deffinantly see the slowdown.
