Need help with MSFS 2020

Postby Tug002 » Tue Dec 31, 2024 7:19 am

Would appreciate any help with solving a problem with msfs 2020.

Bought the game from steam and installed it including the 4 hour update download. When I run the game it only partly loads and the aircraft is covered in pink checker board squares. The menu pulldowns don't work only the home screen works with limited pictures. I tried to uninstall and reload the game with no success as I couldn't find the folders for the game and the update which uses a tremendous amount of the hard drive. I would like to delete the whole game including the update and start from scratch. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am no very computer savvy. I am running Windows 11. My system is below.

7 GHz AMD Ryzen 5 4600G processor and 12GB DDR4 RAM
512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 solid state drive
6GB DDR6 NVIDIA GeForce GTX1660 SUPER dedicated graphics card
Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) and 10/100/1000 Ethernet port provide high-speed wireless and wired network connectivity
Bluetooth 5.0
Two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, 4 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, 2 USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports, 1 RJ45 LAN port, 1 HDMI 1.4 port, 1 VGA Port, 1 DVI-D, 1 PS2, 3 audio jacks, and 1 3.5mm combo audio jack
High Definition 7.1 channel audio with AMD B550 Chipset sound card
VR ready design

Hope that someone is able to help me out as I cant afford a new computer being on a fixed income (pension)

Thank you in advance :)

Keep smiling
Tug :)

Need no help now as I have gotten a refund from Steam. Good company, they back up what they sell.

Sorry I didn't see your post in time :/
The pink texture usually mean "missing" textures, so there was either some problem with the install, or there was an issue with your video drivers.
About Steam, you can uninstall a game simply by right-clicking it in your list of games; you would get a right-click menu with an item called "Manage" and then a sub-item called "uninstall".

On a side note, regarding installing games from Steam (for those who are not familiar with it): if possible, you should avoid installing into the default C:\ drive, as your game will end up being installed into quite a complex path.
Instead, Steam allows you to create a "destination folder" (a game library, so to say) on each drive that your computer has.
Steam then creates a "SteamLibrary" folder on that drive, and you can then choose to install a game in there. It's still not ideal (as mine ended up being in G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\MicrosoftFlightSimulator), but it's still better than the path you'd get on the C: drive ;)

Finally, that part of the sim is not the biggest one, and you won't really need to touch anything in it. What's important is the OTHER path, the one that the simulator installation program asks you when you launch the sim the very first time. That one, you're free to set, and you should set it to a simply path to ease up finding your files. This is where most of the sim content would be downloaded (more than 100 Gb) and this is also where your Community folder (where you should install your addons, planes, sceneries etc...) will be. For example, I chose G:\MSFS\ for mine. Easy to find :)

Thank you for the info Daube. I figured that it was a video card problem but I was not going to backdate drivers to fix it as I was afraid of screwing up my FSX which was still working fine. After about 4 hours of searching I finally found the huge file I was looking for in hidden folders and was able to delete it and regain that space on my hard drive.
