Just dropping file into community folder simply does not work. aircraft show up in content manager as not installed in community even though that's where i put it.

Depends where you got that plane I think.
If you got it from the marketplace, then it get installed automatically.
If you got it from an external website (freeware or payware), then dropping the main aircraft folder into "Community" is all that is needed.
Of course you have to ensure you're dropping the correct folder, not a folder that contains a folder that contains the plane, see what I mean ?
