Well the way for me is to load up Asobo Flight Simulator the night of the update and go to bed as it downloads.

Maybe by morning it will have finished :D :D :D

Then go back to P3D5 :D :D :D

For info, the update was released 2 hours ago more or less.
Also available on Steam.
There are in fact 2 updates:
- One for the simulator itself, with a size which seems to depend on the sim version. I have the standard edition and I had to download 21.9 GB of data.
- One for the World Update III which covers UK and Ireland, with a size of 4.93 GB.

So does this massive UK update remove the need to get ORBX London?

With MSFS updates one must read carefully for each release notes and known problems. Sometimes another problems appear as the spikes and water walls in previous update.
https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/re ... ble/365854

In the case of Orbx London City :

For users having the “Landmarks London City Pack by Orbx” bundle, the new enhanced scenery with the United Kingdom & Ireland update seems to create conflicts that prevent users from seeing the scenery quality expected.
Workaround: Uninstall the “Landmarks London City Pack” until an update is available.

Why Orbx, that is supposed to be a main contributor for MSFS is ignored in such a way? The logic should have been report this to Orbx in order to update its product at the same time of the sim.

MS and Asobo not only despise customers but also conributors.

Was OrbX ignored by Asobo or was it the other way around ? I haven't found info about this yet ? :/
So far it seems the origin of the problem comes from the fact that London is now covered by photogrammetry scenery, and the scenery from OrbX cannot be displayed on top.
I don't know if OrbX was aware that this was going to happen.

Can they really polish a turd? This I’ve got to see!   Unfortunately it looks as if I will have to wait several days for my computer to download it.

Why call it a turd ?
That update has received quite a good feedback from what I could read on various forums.
Terrain spikes are gone, pixellated clouds are gone, water on cliffs is mostly gone, lighting was further enhanced...

There are only three main complaints I've seen so far:
1- Asobo has modified the intensity of the ground effect, which was said to be too low in the past. Unfortunately, because of this, all planes need to be adjusted. For default planes, we'll have to see what happens with the next "sim update" in a few days from now.
2- They seem to have fixed the behavior of the VSync, which is now really disabled if you chose "disabled" in the sim. This was not really the case in the past, if I understood correctly. Then now many people are surprised to see screen tearing.
3- While they have fixed almost completely the terrain spikes and water running up the coasts, they still haven't fixed the terrain morphing at close distances, and quite a few people are upset about this.

Why call it a turd ?

I think you have answered your own question!

Also, it is a reasonable assumption based on previous efforts.

I stand to be corrected.

So the update has solved a very high part of the issues, and still deserves to be called a turd ? Sorry but that makes no sense.
The consequence of the ground-effect modification on the planes is quite a minor problem, the planes just need to be updated, that's not something that will take long, is it?

My guess about all of this is that the ground effect was not strong enough in the previous versions of the sim. Then all planes had to compensate by "cheating" with the efficiency of the flaps, for example with higher lift but no higher drag, or something like that. Now that the ground effect has been corrected, the "cheats" became counter-productive and need to be removed/adjusted again based on the new effect.

Now, we could complain about Asobo not updating the default planes at once, yes.
That doesn't make this update a "turd". Or do you mean Asobo should have refrained from correcting the ground effect ?

Well, the first things I will be doing when I finally get the update are as follows:
1) Take a trip down the Grand Canyon.
2) Visit the Arizona memorial at Pearl Harbour.
3) Go sight-seeing at Niagara Falls.
4) Check out my own city (Gloucester) to see if there is anything I can recognise.
5) See how they are getting on with the repairs at Fukushima and Chernobyl.
6) Try to find the Loch Ness monster.

I don’t hold out much hope for the last one, but I expect to see a marked improvement in the others – I’ll let you know.

For the time being, I'll keep holding my nose!
