- the "photogrametry" buildings, made from extrapolation of the aerial pictures of special types
- the "autogen", made of generic buildings placed accurately on top of the photorealistic ground textures, anywhere photogrametry is not available.

Both of these will look very good... but only from a certain distance.
In the case of photogrametry buildings, things could get a bit ugly when viewed from very close.
In the case of generic buildings, well... they are generic.
So in both cases, there is room for a good OrbX-style airport scenery with accurate 3D buildings that would be beautiful even from very close distance (think about hangars, jetways etc...).
But yes, sceneries based on landclass are probably not going to happen in FS2020... and that's not a bad thing ;)

I certainly agree when it comes to airports but I havent seen anything from any scenery provider that compares with what MS is planning to release as default in the new sim.
Some of the stuff in the 'teaser 'videos is quite stunning. The question isnt can this be matched but can it be bettered? Looking at these pre release videos, I doubt it.
and I think that might be the problem. We will see.
At least the flight sim is alive again. All good.

It's free for us, is it not?

Do you mean we have to be content with seeing Blimp Adverts float across in front of us, or stickers on the instrument panel promoting something... If this is as real as it is promoted to be, then a real possibility is we see scenery of commercial areas with trading names on sides of buildings etc. That at least would not be intrusive, but how many companies will pay for that just for a small flight sim audience.

DONT give them ideas ! Actually it is a good compromise they may well take up. Not intrusive, adds realism and brings in money. Oh dear, I am doing it now :(

They have recently posted a new video that shows some snow accumulating over the scenery.
This could be a way to announce they are working on implementing seasons in the new sim, but nothing is confirmed yet.
Right now, it seems to be a similar system as used in the XEnviro addon for XPlane11: a shader-based system that accumulates some white snow on top of the ground textures and objects. Now words about the effets on the planes, and no words about an similar techniques for autumn or spring... For now.

very impressive just the same considering all this will come as 'standard'.

It's not available yet. The last word is that it will go on sale in the late Fall.
