cfs war emergency power (WEP)

Postby kcib2u » Wed Feb 09, 2005 3:20 pm

???

Well I'am a first timer.  So here's my first question?
Where inside cfs is the WEP option hidden?  I've worked with AIR files, aircraft.cfg's, dp's & models but I haven't found the WEP option anywhere?

Hi,

In CSF2 it's in the airfile under the engine section. (501)

Hope this helps.

Well I wish it was that easy to find in CFS1.  If you know
where it is in CFS1 please pass it on to me!  Thanks :D

Actually I looked at a cfs2 air file and it's very similiar to a cfs file.  The engine section deals with powerplant description including supercharger performance.  But this is not the WEP system.  The WEP sysytem is either a water or water/methanol injection system, that typically adds about a 15 - 20% hp boost while injected.
It increases the compression ratio dramatically and this is why it can't stay on to long!

Anyway it's coded into cfs some other place so I'm still looking for someone who know where?

Thanks, for any suggestions.   ::)

In CFS2, it's in record 505, under Emergency Power type=, which determines whether it's water injection or other method of WEP.
Then you adjust the next two entries, "Emergency Power Pressure Change rate", and "Emergency Power manifold pressure Increase" to determine the effect that WEP has on the engine.

That's exactly the record you should be using for CFS1, since it is labelled "505 Engine CFS/FS2000 Piston Engine".

However, you may have a third party aircraft that uses entry 500, "Engine Piston Engine (FS98/CFSAI)" for the aircraft and has no 505 entry, in which case you can't have WEP.

Thanks for the help.  I can now see why I can't find it!

The FDE (flight dynamics editor) I'm using does not show those Section 505 entries.

So if I don't see them I can't edit them.  I'm using Abacus FDE V15.0.21.  Is there a way to get a more comprehensive FD editor.

Again thanks for any suggestions.    :D

Try AirEd from the utilities section here. http://www.simviation.com/cfs2utilities1.htm

Oh, thanks so much!  Now I've got TWO Air Editors.  Hey the combination of them both makes a good, fairly comprehensive EDITOR.

Thanks again, happy flying.   ;D

My apologies,I should have made clear I was discussing AirEd, as I believed the previous correspondent was discussing.
The Abacus editor works, but the entries are different. On balance, I prefer AirEd.

I use AirEd. Seldom ever look at at CFS1 air files though...

Well they both seem to have there strenghts and weaknesses.

Like aired doesn't list several important prop-plane variables:  Prop effect on elevator, elavator response, prop effect on rudder ... etc in the flight dynamics section.

And of course fdeditor doesn't list WEP and other things.

That's why I need both of them!!!!!    ::)

There's another editor too, that opens up the mysteries in CFS2 a little more. Called something like Aircraft Container manager. Hagar will know, and he'll probably be cruising past any second to disagree with me over something

Hagar just flew by and confirmed that it's called Aircraft Container Manager:

But it's now gone Payware.

IndioBlack has more knowledge on CFS flight dynamics in his little finger than I will ever know. It depends what you wish to do & how far you wish to go with it. I think that the combination of AirEd & FDE should do everything most people will ever need. Here's all the AIR file editors I know about. http://perso.wanadoo.fr/hsors/FS_Soft/fsairfile.html

Please bear in mind that some of these aren't strictly AIR file editors but edit the Aircraft.cfg entries. They're intended for FS2002/4 & might not be suitable for CFS. There are various updated INI files for AirEd which you might or might not need. The AvHistory site also has a special workbook for creating realistic flight dynamics. This works in conjunction with AirEd.
