Help please Hagar

Postby mag_ddave » Wed Jul 30, 2003 3:01 pm

;D Hi Hagar, how have you been ? I have a new puzzle to solve and I hope you can help.I am building an ac carrier scenery and I have used a macro for the Hancock.I'm not sure if its a Dan Geis macro modified by Frank Foreman or if its  Frank Foremans.Problem iswhen my ac comes into the scenery and is on deck, the plane looks to be 5 feet above deck.i have tried altering scenery object height, scenry location height, even using martin wrights MKafd program,it still does it.Whats funny is that when i use a Dan Geis modern ac carrier, the planes sit right on the deck.Is the deck height problem a function of information thats encoded to the bgl and is unalterable? Thanks ,I appreciate your time and talent as usuall/ :) :D ;D

Hi Dave. I'll be away from the PC for a few days so can't  be much help right now.
Meanwhile, can you remind me which version of CFS this is for. As I remember, sea level in CFS1 is about + 5 feet.

;D Hi Hagar, thanks for the reply. It's for CFS1.Sea level is around 3 feet.Whats strange is for a Dan Geis macro ,aircraft sits perfectly on deck.I used martin Wright MKafd program.I put the frank Foreman macro( USS Hancock) right next to it and the plane floats right above the deck.No matter what elevation i give the scenery :) :D ;D or AFD I keep gettin a "floater".haven't figured it out.I have the stock macro and texture file so theres no prob there.Just doesn't look right so i was hoping you might have a hint for me or you could point me in the right direction.I sure appreciate your help as always sir.Ty !! Hi Dave. It's a while since I messed with CFS1. As I remember, you have to define a hard deck for the carrier in whichever scenery design program you're using. I suggest you check out the height of the deck in the Hancock macro. It could be lower than the other carrier. This is my best suggestion for now.

???Hi Hagar, sry, been gone for a few.I tried adjusting deck hights but the planes still float.I discovered an updated file for just those problems. The deck hight problem is solved.Problem now is the wakes don't show. The new conversion by Frank Foreman is for FS2002 and the wakes look all "wongo" .But at least the planes look right on the deck now.I have got it so the carrier location takes about 2 minutes for me to change and zip up.I send it out and voila! New location for the mission. In the process of workng this out I ended up with ANOTHER carrier scenery as well NW of Calais.Seems the location is very popular.Anyway,as always I apprecite your help AND your time sir.Ty. :) :D ;D ;)

Hi Dave. You forgot to tell me where to download these files so I can check them out. The problem with the wake might be the texture format. FS2002 uses various formats CFS1 cannot read. You can convert the texture to R8 (or 8-bit BMP) format with ConvR8 or use the original FS98/CFS1 texture by simply changing its name in the API file.

There are several CFS1 carriers located NW of Calais. My own USS Essex was one of the first. ;)

;D Hi Hagar,I got those from (pardon me father for I have sinned) Flightsim.com.It's Frank Foreman's Navy 2002 file.He had one called Navy2k but in Navy2002 he wrote about the deck height problem in Navy 2k and fixed it in Navy2002. I have ConvR8 but i have not tried changing the name in the api file.never thought of that.Hmm.... ???By the way, where can i get your carrier? :) :D ;D ;)

Hi Dave. I'll check those textures out when I have a moment. My USS Essex carrier was originally included with the Bridges at Toko-ri campaign I did with Mike Eustace. It was created from the original Dan Geis FS98 macro - rescaled x2 to make it about the correct size compared with the CFS1 default ships. (Unfortunately I have since lost my source file & forget exactly how I did it.) I uploaded it separately for others to use in their own missions. It's posted here. http://www.simviation.com/cfs1scenery8.htm
