Is disabling HT a liability?

Prepar3D - Lockheed Martin has taken the FSX platform into a new level aimed at the professional.

Is disabling HT a liability?

Postby ConcordeError404 » Mon Mar 14, 2022 12:29 pm

Got my fps fixed in a way I was not intending to, re enabling Hyper Threading
Normally, I hear bad stuff about HT when P3D comes to talk, but since I was getting tired of old chap v4.5 giving me a quite underwhelming 15 fps, I decided to give HT another try
Surprisingly for me, I did get better frames! Got a rise from 15 to 50+

SO, I'm just wondering, is it some weird thing of newer CPU's? Or is it just dumb luck?
Specs:
GTX 1050 Ti
i7 11th Gen
8 GB RAM (Works good enough for me, so won't be thinking on upgrading it)

Atleast that's a problem fixed for me <<q

I believe the answer depends on how many cores your CPU has and what you entered in sim cfg for affinity mask. The affinity mask (for the same CPU (cores)) will be different depending on wheter HT is 'On' or 'Off'. Perhaps there is where the 'luck' came in (AM number?). You can go here ( https://www.gfsg.co.uk/affinitymask.asp ... m=utilties ) to calculate 'THE' Affinity Mack number (HT On/HT Off)

Well Chuck, it does show a good bit of improvement on the side of HT enabled, checked the Affinity Mask Tweak as well into the Prepar3D.cfg, HT disabled gives worse performance as compared to HT enabled
I'll still need some more looking into, it could be courtesy of the newer CPU or could be smt to do with the BIOS.
Anyways, it's good to see a solution to a problem plaguing a good flight sim!
