Just seen that Lockheed Martin has just released P3D V4.3 - Lots of updates etc but the ones that caught my eye was the addition of six C-130s! Been seriously missing my Herky-Bird since Capt Sim's version became incompatible!

New Content;

Added six flyable C-130 aircraft as default selectable vehicles:
AC-130 ‘Spectre’
C-130H
C-130J
C-130J-30
HC-130
KC-130

Currently downloading it now & will report back laters (after my curry! - I know it's hot in the UK [29 - 30c] but when a free curry dinner is offered, it can't be refused!)

Keith.

Well, Just updated the client & have noticed a few things:

You can finally access the Scenery - Scenery Add-ons & Options panels via the Home/Scenario screen!

You can also see a map of the area you want to fly in below the airport selection box, this also shows the other airfields in the location you wish to fly in but also allows you to move your mouse pointer over the airports displayed in the map & select the airport instead if you wished to!

Thanks for the update 8-)

Hope it's not a cost for v4.2 users .....

Hi Pete, yes it's free.

Looks like the C-130s that are now included are from Capt Sim, I say that as the interface is very similar but I could be wrong!

Had a quick test of a few Milviz aircraft that I know worked & were compatible with V4.2 & they seem to work fine (a very quick test!)

I decided to to a fresh install of V4.3 as the previous install was getting cluttered & sluggish so will report back if I find any problems compatibility wise.

Not a bad interim update, though I wouldn't be surprised if the next update is a paid one.

Keith.

Hi

Have you seen any big differences?

May try downloading again today when I can get a good connection. D/l keeps timing out on me.

Hi, Really sorry for the very slow reply! Been away from my PC for a few days!

To be honest, the big differences I've noticed the most were on the performance side of things, the newly added aircraft & features/changes to the interface.

Scenery wise I'm not really sure as I tend to install my Orbx scenery straight into any P3D install.

I do tend to do a fresh install of any new release anyways, this is mainly due to finding it a pain in the bum installing the smaller separate versions of updates (more my issue rather than the installation process! )

I hope you've managed to get yours downloaded successfully?!

Keith.

I have installed the 4.3 update last week, by updating only the client, as usual. Everything went smooth, just like the previous updates.

I'm not interested in the small scenery fixes in the scenery update and I really, REALLY don't want to download several GB just for these small fixes.
I might be interested in the new airplane (Captain Sim C-130) and the various updates to the default planes in the "content" part, but I'm really not motivated to download the 2 or 3GB content files, so I haven't done that yet.

My computer is now way too old for P3D. I can get decent/good performance (30 to 45 FPS) as long as I stay away from large airports or complex sceneries, with a very good graphical level, but that's it. Some planes I cannot use because they are too heavy for my CPU (Justflight Tornado, Aerosoft Airbus, any complex airliner...). Some sceneries I cannot use for the same reason (any complex airport, FranceVFR sceneries with 3DAutomation autogen etc...).

In that context, the 4.3 update didn't really bring anything positive on the performances level. It runs more or less just like 4.2 did.
As far as I understand, the performance increase might happen on more powerful/recent CPUs and video cards, because for example, the FPS impact of the dynamic lighting has been reduced. I cannot activate this option because it brings my FPS far too low. Even with the patch, there is still a small impact, and I don't need that :)
Users of VR headsets will also see drastic FPS improvements.

The new computer has arrived, fortunately :)
But it's still in its box, and I'm still away from it in business trip, unfortunately :(
In August I may have time to switch.
