V2.5 is now out! 9:45pm

Prepar3D - Lockheed Martin has taken the FSX platform into a new level aimed at the professional.

V2.5 is now out! 9:45pm

Postby OldAirmail » Tue Feb 10, 2015 10:02 pm

For good or ill, it's out now.

I'm downloading it now, but will wait a while to install it.

Good luck, one and all.

Also, from their site:

It is recommended that you uninstall v2.4 before installing v2.5. Additionally, if you have any issues running v2.5 it is recommend that you clear all files found in the following folders:
%PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files

Note the "if you have any issues running v2.5" part.

You may want to delete the %LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2 part to remove the Shaders files instead of all of the above.

You can always wipe the whole thing if it doesn't work, and re-install P3d V2.5 again.

One person is reporting that the load seems to be spread across all of his cores.

I did notice that the CPU does not appear to be the bottle neck anymore!!!

Here's another report of apparent multi-core use by Prepar3d V2.5.

The checksum matches on the first try.

I guess I'll have to install it now. Hope it works.

Downloaded & installed.

At first all I had was a blank, the same as I had with P3d V2.2

Then I deleted those files;
%PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v2
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3D v2 Files

Uninstalled P3d, and restarted me computer.

Install again & re-start.

Same problem - blank screen. I could hear the engine running, but that was just about it.

I then ran SimAccess from Flightsim Estonia and every thing now works.

It definitely feels faster, but then again - It's a clean install.

I'll need to start setting up the hardware AGAIN tomorrow, but what little I did with it tonight looks VERY good.

Wonder if it's your setup or will it run out of the box for most people?

I'm pretty sure that it's my setup.

Normally, I use one background virus scanner.

But I rotate two other virus scanners, manually starting the other, when doing online banking.

It may be faulty logic, but I assume/hope that a virus may hide it's self during a scan, or be unable to evade two scans at one time.

It seems to work - no viruses are found.

For what it's worth, I also use one scanner while updating another virus scanner.

Many years ago I had a virus that prevented me from downloading virus updates.

That's when I found out that a second virus scanner, manually run, caused the first to suspend it's self during an update & scan.

Long download @ 10.7 gig. No problems here though. Straightforward uninstall of 2.4 and a good install of 2.5. It works first time with no tweaks and seems to be running very well.........Much smoother than the previous version.

Previously I was getting some stuttering but it's now much improved. I am still getting some textures popping into existence but not enough to worry about. Locked at 30fps. Most of my sliders are on high or max except traffic. HDR and lense flare off. Cloud shadows and aircraft shadows on, other shadows off...... The CPU being my weak spot so anything but minimal traffic will hammer it no doubt.

Overall, very pleased.......and no endless tweaking :-)

I've been using similar settings - most settings all the way up as far as scenery goes.

I've actually had little time to play with it yet, but it does seem to be performing better.

I think that the in-cabin image is better. I too don't use HDR.

One really good thing that I've been reading about is that the new file structure will make updating something FAR better.

Unfortunately, it may mean that the old installers won't work. Work-arounds WILL be found. :D

I haven't had time either OldAirmail.

I have heard that 2.5 better utilizes multiple cores, not sure how true that is.

As I mentioned above one of the attractions for me is that tweaking seems a thing of the past........but....... I reckon the constant tweaking needed for FSX was pleasing for some folk. A bit like tuning cars: some folk love it, others just want a car that works. As a youngster I liked tinkering with stuff but as I get older I just want stuff that works. P3D does that now.
