The Migration Tool from FlightSim Estonia

Prepar3D - Lockheed Martin has taken the FSX platform into a new level aimed at the professional.

The Migration Tool from FlightSim Estonia

One of the tools, SimAccess, played the pivotal role in permitting me to, not only gain full access to the Prepar3d V2 files, but to make P3d fully useable.

They describe it as - an end to annoying security prompts. But it has done what I was unable to manually do - grant "full control" to ALL Prepar3d files, AND THEN SAVE THEM!

Somewhere, somehow, I'd missed one or more protected files, and was unable to save any changes.

So download it, and burn it to disk. Because it you EVER need it, you will REALLY need it.

At any rate, you can read about that story here if you want to.

But this is about their software: Migration Tool.

"This new builds adds a simple simulator selection dialog that allows switching between redirecting FSX installers to Prepar3D v1 and to Prepar3D v2."

Now, technically, you may not really need this software. But on the other hand it may be the only way to installed some of the software that you bought, into Prepar3d.

Installation is fairly simple.

The first time that you run it, you ***MUST*** select the "Enable virtual FSX" button.

Image

Next you'll see this;

Image

On exiting the program, with it enabled, you'll see this pop-up. Just click on OK.

Image

Although it tells you to point the FSX installer to the Prepar3d folder, YOU don't have to do a thing.

The Migration Tool will direct the FSX program installer to the proper Prepar3d folders.

This is a paid FSX aircraft that I just installed to Prepar3d V2 using Migration Tool. As you can see everything works.

Precausions

The Migration Tool ONLY NEEDS TO BE RUN WHEN YOU'RE INSTALLING FSX SOFTWARE INTO PREPAR3D!

NOT ALL THE TIME.

When you're through with the installation, run the Migration Tool again and click on the "Disable virtual FSX" button.

Image

What the software does, one way or another, is to TOTALLY disable FSX.

You can not even run FSX by going to the folder and double clicking on fsx.exe.

FSX WILL NOT RUN UNTIL THE MIGRATION TOOL HAS BEEN RUN TO DISABLE THE "VIRTUAL FSX".

So ALWAYS use the program to disable the "VIRTUAL FSX" when you are not installing FSX software to Prepar3d!

ALWAYS

When you click on "Disable virtual FSX" button, you'll see this pop-up and it'll close when you hit OK.

DONE :D

=================================================================================

Does it always work?

No. Because not all FSX software is compatible with Prepar3d V2.

Do you really need it?

Not for a lot of free software, but it will help on those .exe installs. Particularly the paid software.

Can problems occur?

If the migration software isn't disabled after an install, and something happens to that software, then you're in DEEP doo doo.

Fortunately, they thought of that. EVERY time that you use it, the software makes a backup. Just don't delete that backup folder.

I'll write more about what can happen if the program does get screwed up, later.

It's not a disaster, but you do need to;
