I like the weather better in P3d than FSX. The HDR lighting and volumetric fog/clouds add more realism for me.

Pardon me for dredging up this old thread. I was doing a search to see if anyone already made a comparison thread between FSX and P3D and so far I found it. I was thinking about buying it but I wanted to see what you guys recommend for me at this point as I heard there are several versions of it. Here are my hardware specs:

Dell XPS Desktop
Windows Vista (Business Edition) <--don't ask
Intel Core2 Quad CPU 2.4GHz
4GB Ram
NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

It's an old computer. In fact, it's almost a decade old. The GPU was actually a downgrade as I couldn't afford an equivalent replacement of the original one which was more powerful. But it can handle FSX just fine at moderate settings.

I don't think that you'll make it - System Requirements.

In the meantime FSX is still going strong. :D

If it weren't for the developers FSX would be almost dead.

Dang it. Looks like I'll only be able to handle P3Dv1.4 and even then its recommendations are at the limit of my rig's capacity. Oh well. Looks like FSX will be around for a while. Thanks.

The difference in FSX & P3d V1.x is too small to warrant the price.

If you intend to update your machine then getting P3d V2.5 could be worth it.

Otherwise there's plenty to do to make FSX look brand new.

The best for your computer is FSX Steam Edition.
