I was wondering how you change the rate of fire for aircraft guns. do you look in the .xdp files or what ?

yes, that would be in the xdp (maybe the guns' xdp, not the plane's).
Remember two things :
- this will make your plane create a mismatch for multiplayer
- delete the corresponding .bdp file to have the change be taken into account.
