Super Sonic

is there a Super Sonic effect for the stock aircraft? and a fix for the  51 breaking the barrier id like to completely relive the incident at the end of the war where the 51 tryed to follow a 262 into a dive and broke the barrier and desentigrating just after?

I hope not as neither plane could go supersonic in a dive.

A P-51's Vne was 505 MPH IAS & a Me-262 could not exceed Mach 0.86 without becoming completely uncontrollable . This nose down pitch (Mach Tuck) would constantly increase the plane's dive angle to the point that the aircraft would disintegrate under the negative g-loads.

Post war tests show the maximum safe dive speed for the 262 @ Mach 0.84

no the 262 pulled out imediatly the 51D continued in a dive till it hit the soundbarrier and started to break up

to my understanding what was going on was the 262 inverted and dove (pulled back on the stick till it was 180 and verted the 51D tryed to follow and stalled or something making it unable to pull our of the dive i might have facts mixed up but History channel was saying a 51D broke up from hitting the barrier in a dive

The History channel says a lot of things that make many of us smile, but the fact is a P-51 will shed its wings way before it gets close to Mach 1.

BTW Vne is the speed where its expected that structural damage will occur.

The P-51's Vne is 505 mph IAS & for example the speed of sound at 10,000 feet is 761 x 0.9650 or 734 miles per hour. This leaves the Mustang 229 mph to go from the point it starts to take major structural damage till it gets to Mach 1.

ok thanks for the lesson lol guess i start doing net reasearch instead of watching HC lol all the same fun just not flashy video clips lol but then Microsoft didnt do a good job on flight dynamics of structural stress cuz i hit 800 in that 51 lol and if i were 5000 feet higher i would have pulled out of it and lived lol

question still remains... is there a super sonic effect out there that someone may know of?

I think Firepower By shockwave productions MAY have it.... they have a load of fire effects and stuff, but the sound barrier wasnt broken until after the war so  I'm not for sure! Cheers, Gunny
