Reducing Jerkiness

I have tried all the fixes that I can find and I cannot prevent CFS3 from becoming jerky at times. I get a faily steady framerate of about 20 FPS in most situations but occasionally it plummets fo a few seconds and is very noticable.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Here are the BIG frame rate hogs in CFS3.
1] Clouds
2] Effects
3] Land and Water quality.
Try turning down the clouds first. Then the EFFECTS and so on.
Knowing a little about your system would help.
Good luck and keep trying.

To me, the big fps hogs are the terrain and scenery.
What we need to know :
- your system specs
- what are the tweaks/settings you use in cfs3config
- your resolution, etc...

I think it's a good idea to defrag your hard drive(s), especially if you've been downloading a lot of new stuff.
I was getting frame rate dips for no reason, but a good defrag helped immensely.

My system Specs:
Pentium 4 1.7Ghz
512 MB RAM
GeForce 5200 256MB
60 GB HD
When I reinstalled CFS3 approx 3 months ago I applied the tweaks as recommended by RAF SHEP.
Iam running most settings at 2, except clouds which are at 1.
Thanks for the help.

There's not much hope, I'm afraid, of having a very good-looking cfs3 with your system.
Your PCU is a bit on the weak side, and cfs3 loves RAM. I personally recommend at least 768Mo (1024Mo preferable if your OS can support that amount).
Anyway, I don't know if you've already tried it, but this tweaking guide is quite comprehensive and with MAX clouds and terrain, is aimed at relatively low-end systems such as yours.

BTW, if you're planning to upgrade, I think the main target should be the CPU.

look, I'm going to say it again: defrag.
I had a jerkiness problem that crept up and defrag cured it.
There may be other issues, but do a defrag.

Indioblack is completely right :
I usually defrag once a week. The other thing that can help is to kill all the background applications that run in the background and that eat up RAM space and CPU cycles unecessarily. There's a neat little and free application that helps you do it - it's called "enditall" (google it).
Anyway, the minimum requirements (roughly) to run cfs3 are IMO :
- equivalent 2Ghz CPU
- 512 Mo RAM
- DX9 128Mo GPU
To have good results (not maxxed graphics options though, but still satisfactory) :
- 2.5Ghz CPU
- 1024Mo RAM
- mid range GPU such as the ATI 9800 Pro
My specs are :
- 2.8Ghz oc'ed to 3Ghz
- 1024Mo RAM
- ATI 9800 Pro
I get 35ish fps with minimum tweaking, sliders at 5/5/4/3/3/2 and it looks goooooooooood!
