Posted: Sun Dec 19, 2004 12:12 pmIn the very early war half the underside of all RAF fighters were painted black. I can only assume this was to act as an IFF for ground units.

Posted: Thu Dec 23, 2004 10:06 pmDuring late fall 1940/winter 1941 RAF changed back to half black painted undersurfaces. Believe the original ID of Black and White undersurfaces was recognition by own AA-fire crews.
