3rd Party Aircraft Index

Postby Scorpiоn » Tue Mar 16, 2004 4:34 pm

This is another one of those lists of good aircraft to download.  So far, Groundcrew's aircraft are the only ones I find acceptable. :P I'll start things off. ;)

Groundcrew Design Group
  • Heinkel He 111-H variants
  • Messerschmitt Bf 110-G variants

Anything is better than the stock aircraft ;)
Check out AvHistory for some really great aircraft including:
Beaufighter MkI & IF
Hurricane MkI
Spitfire MkI
Corsair
Mustang MkIII
B-17
Fw190
BF 109E
Hellcat
Wildcat
Zero
the list goes on...

I so wish someone would make a Spitfire MkXIV ;)

I've never had a spot of bother with any aircraft I've downloaded, but CFS3 is so unstable at the best of times that any small change can cause you hours of tweeking if you are not careful. Never had this trouble with CFS2.

My CFS3 stopped working when I installed a load of Sim-outhouses tanks. Removing them solved the problem.

Stuff

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Mar 17, 2004 12:18 am

My CFS3 runs smooth, with almost no tweaking, with a 500Mhz processor! ;D Yeah, the frame rate isn't the best it could be, but hey, beggars can't be choosy! ;D

Anyway... back to topic.

I personally find that AvHistory makes rather incomplete aircraft.  Parts go untextured and the first Corsair released, was well...  Never liked AvHistory all too much.

Scorpion, I have followed with some, admitterable, satisfaction (LOL) your recent positive remarks re our Groundcrew work.
Thanks for that.
Whatever, I would guess that your tiny PC and probably resulting low detail settings are the key to the not so good visuals you encounter with other 3rd party planes?
You should have the aircraft detail slider at least to "3" to see the main model of an aircraft/vehicle/ship.
anything below and you'll have just the LOD_90 or LOD_70 model on display.

As for locking and crashing PC after installing an addon, there are two rules of thumb to come around the issue in almost all cases.
1) Search and delete all files with extension bdp in your CFS3 root. That's the xdp files in binary format, they'll get recreated the next time you run CFS3.
2) Make shure you have all required weapons installed = read the readme:)

Me

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Mar 17, 2004 2:23 am

I always give aircraft a fair chance, they still never measure up.  By the way, the only slider I keep on five is aircraft! ;) I'm just absolutely dumbfounded how people can say, "It was well worth the download!", and then, it doesn't even have a VC!  Don't waste my time! :P And I'm talking CFS2, FS20002, FS2004 and CFS3.

Mathias, don't get too toasty, the only reason I haven't started griping with the Heinkel is because it's a Beta.  Though I must say it seems like it just needs polishing up! ;)

Hawker, funny you should say that, I think nothing is better than stock aircraft! ::) Save for the two former aircraft.  (Control yourself Mathias! ;D)

Now that I think of it, wasn't there some modern aircraft or some Korean war jets coming out in awhile.  I heard about a Komet too.  Makes me think of my own 163, and how I never finished it! :'(

good enough as a target drone though ;D

Or for targeting other drones; ;D I just can't bear to shoot such a beautiful aircraft down! :'(

Although I need to switch from that North Afrika scheme to normal BoB colors.  Looks a bit... out of place! ::)

Well Scorpion, maybe this one will be more to your liking.
It will have full 3d gauges.
wonder how it'll run on your machine?

Hawker, funny you should say that, I think nothing is better than stock aircraft! '(

Scorpion old chap, for someone who is so keen on detail as you, I can't believe you think the stock aircraft are the best ??? The list of inaccuracies and lack of attention to detail in the stock models is mind boggling. Not a single British aircraft is correct in all respects, those daft coloured stripes aside, weapons load outs are incorrect or inaccurate, detail like a pitot tube on the Tempest are missing, the Spifires look "wrong" and the IXe has the machine guns in the wrong location, no Spitfire in WW2 ever had those underwing drop tanks, the list is endless.
Many third party types have tried to solve some of these errors however and I now only fly historically correct repaints of the stock models.
If it were not for those wounderful chaps at Groundcrew and AvHistory I'd have dumped this and brought IL2 ages ago.

Presentation

Postby Scorpiоn » Wed Mar 17, 2004 3:53 pm

My main concern is not what is included, but how that is included.  Yes I would very much prefer historically correct things, but if those things are just kind of "there", then no thanks.  The VC must be done, all things must have textures paralleling Microsoft quality, and of course, all parts must be textured!  I'm very graphically stringent.

Mathias, what in the world is that?

That's a render of the Bf110G-4 nightfighter cockpit in it's current state.
The lights and shadows in the game are not exactly as in the render but close.
Here is an older pic in the game:
Note the geometry and texturing has improved since then:)
The "static" shadowing in the final version should be close to those in the render above.

Mathia, can we have another clue to when this pack of Bf110 night fighter and Lancaster will be released? Just a little clue? Last I heard was late summer. But it's missed that dead line by about seven months... Any chance of an update?
