Is it possible to edit missions using an XML editor (e.g. jEdit)? I want to insert different aircraft into the Mossie Mission Pack but not have to used the mission builder. I have tried editing the XML files only to find that when CFS3 loads the missions, the one that I created generates a script error (CFS3 doesn't like the file).
Is there something that I am missing, like something else needs to get updated?
I just downloaded the Mission Builder but have not tried it yet. To me, it seems it would be easier to just edit the XML files.
Any thoughts or experience?

Hi
Von_Eutin - Yes, you can directly edit the mission .xml files - in some circumstances that is the ONLY way to get the desired effect, as MissionBuilder imposes certain defaults.
You can use an XML editor (I use XML Notepad - a free d/l from MS - have tried no other, so this is no recommendation) or NotePad even.
Ensure that you do NOT add in any extra s or s when you paste in the new a/c names, change 'loadouts' etc.
Copy and rename the original - if using NotePad, save into an exiting .xml file.
It does work - converted many missions from stock a/c to 1%.
You will need MB to quickly layout new missions - get all the MS documentation (dry but useful); check the threads at SimOuthouse and 46th Fighter - ask; take apart other designers' work - Wulfmann, 46thIrish, cliffxxx and others; and, be prepared for some quirks and frustrations!
Good luck - Capt Black

Looks like XML Notepad is the right one. jEdit is a Java based XML editor from Sun that I use at work and thought that it would work but it did not. After running XML Notepad, it worked.
Thanks for the tip. What I am doing is Substituting the A-26 intruder into the Mossie Mission Pack because of the increased bomb loads (carries two torpedos) and I like 75 mm gun in the nose. Of course it takes longer to reload but a direct hit on cargo or minesweeper and you can say Gute Nacht (Good Night) to the ship.
