I only recently got CFS3 to run even though my system specs far out did the minimum specs. However after a new card it runs just fine for the most part with sliders at 4 and 5. I did my share of CFS3 knocking in the past but its growing on my slowly now. Some things still bug me, mostly little details like incorrect loadouts (underwing droptanks on Spitfires, incorrect location of .50cal machine guns on Spit IXe) and I mostly only fly correctly repainted or third party addon planes as I don't like the coloured bands on the stock models.
The lack of compatibility with other M$ sims is a big dissadvantage. One of the things that makes CFS2 so good and so long lived is the fact that you can add new stuff from other M$ sims and designers are turning out new stuff all the time. CFS3 addons are only now slowly coming along.
For me, CFS2 is still the best combat sim I ever brought and will remain so for some time yet, but CFS3 is making a case for second best. Lets hope, even though M$ seem certain to stick with the CFS3 engine, that CFS4 fixes some of the bugs and proves to be the sim we all wanted when we brought CFS3.

I have tried CFS3 many times. I HATED IT. :-/

Whenever I play online in CFS3, the aircraft seem to warp and fly sideways with a TON of stutters and lag.

IL-2: FB in my honest opinion IS the best. Those Europeans know how to make a good game. To me, it's no disappointment at all.

I never owned CFS2. Therefore, I cannot comment on it. However, after seeing numerous screenshots of it, I easily began to hate it because the visual models and the damage effects seem primitive and the scenery seems a bit odd. Because of that, I don't trust CFS2.

You have just said the very reason why I feel so 'shafted' by MS on this sim..MS 1 & 2 are good sims, although for it's day MicroProise EAW was the best without a doubt, but only after the add-ons from 'Meatwater' etc...So when CFS3 came out I fell for the fact of 1 an 2 had been very good, so this one would be even better...How wrong can you be..I really felt like Bill Gates had got hold of me and stuck a red hot poker up the rear end if you know what I mean !!!
No matter what the guys say about this tweak or that tweak, it shouldn't need any for heavens sake.. not to that extream at any rate..It should run right from the moment you open the box..not have to fart around with the dam thing until it's so-so...As far as im concerned this one should recieve the 'Royal Rasberry Award' for the most frustrating, waste of time since .....Well I'm lost for words..   8)
