Refuel/Rearm

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

Refuel/Rearm

Postby fidji » Sat Aug 23, 2003 10:52 pm

Hi Guys

First off all I have to say that CFS3 is not so bad as many people talk.
Yes I miss the carriers, yes I miss the pacific area and yes i think that CFS3 is a unfinished job by microsoft, but I think that with some final tutches from all the briliant flightsimers out there this could be a very nice combat flight sim.

...but my question is:

It's possible to refuel/rearm in the midle of a quick mission or in a mission builder's mission??? How???

I hope somebody could help me.

Thanks to all

SPITFIRE_24, you must have unlimited ammo on to do that.  Not a good way to refuel and rearm if your a sticker to realism.

Stickler for realisim??? Is it realistic to have to slam your plane into the ground to get more fuel and or ammo?? Until Microsoft or some 3rd party fixes this my rooms will always be unlimited ammo and fuel in MP and on missions. I can't see crashing to get more fuel and ammo...seems to make the game feel more like MechWarrior 1944 IMHO..I can understand some folks complaining that people will just spray and preay but,for me a short controlled burst is always best. Besides, the air model is always set to hard, stress is always on,as well as G effects and glair. So, with all the setting set this way the folks who will fly around with the trigger taped down will just die anyway because they lack the skills to fly with room setting so high. ;D

PlaneFixer, you must have misunderstood me.  I do not fly with unlimited ammo/fuel nor do I think it is a good thing to do.  All I was saying was that it is unrealistic to use SHIFT-J because you have to fly with unlimited ammo/fuel.  I also don't care to find another way to refual/rearm.

I must agree with Fidji... :)

I flew CFS_2 for a couple of years before v3 was released, and it was an integral part of the game that you could land briefly at your airbases and re-arm your aircraft at any time you could break from the engagement... 8)

I enjoyed the occasional landings as it was a break from the 'ratt-a-tat-tat' and 'Watching Your 6'... Landings are fun too.. (And Very Realistic To Boot) ;D

To remove this feature from CFS_3 was  :-X INSANE, and for all it's 'better graphics' and smoother gameplay (Get a BIG CPU for all the ppl that are gonna say it's jumpy or slow :P) I regret to say it feels much more like an arcade game now, rather than a simulator... >:(

Killing yourself to re-arm is maddness, what WERE they thinking ?

The only other downside is the lack of control you get over the Views that are available to you... I used to set CFS_2 up with multiple windows so that I had 200 degree field of view from my flying position and a closeup window for targeting..

Try doing that, or anything even remotely useful, in CFS_3. >:(

A lot of things about it are truly faster, smoother and better IMHO ;), but the features Microsoft deemed unfit to include from version 2, are the features that makes version 2 the best one for Sim fans and Realism...

If you have more money that you know what to do with, buy it, run it on your super-computers and marvel at it's graphics.. BUT, for the flight simm'ers out there, after half an hour you'll be reinstalling CFS_2 all over again...

'nuff said... :P
