Arsenal of Democracy??

Here is my delima... I started a campaign as a German pilot, and until i got the hang of the game i played on "easy". Every mission i set out to accomplish seemed to have a direct impact on the front line and the axis effortlessly took the whole of england before Christmas. Good thats the point... so i try this once more on harder settings and again as a German pilot. WW2 still  ammounted to little more than a prolonged bar fight in which the axis kicked arse and took names and had this whole thing wrapped up before 1944 set in! good i win again so i figure ill try my luck as an allied pilot.

First off let me begin by saying that i am in complete agreement with "Hub" Zemke - P-47 ace, when i say that the P-47 is a dog of an airplane in an air to air role.

You should have a choice to begin in either a P-51B, P-47 or P-38 and then work your way up from there!

secondly, it seems that no matter how hard i try, or on what difficulty setting i am using that the Germans come in right across the channel and have the war ended before i have flown nearly 30 missions. Obviously whatever it was that i was doing right as a German pilot, im not doing it as an American pilot! (or British)

I have tried several strategies to no avail. the best i have managed is by attacking production centers then fighter sweeps and getting a good foot hold on france followed by an offensive, this works great, For about the next 4 missions, then my front line seems to be in a constant state of retriet. Anyone have any recommendations? I understand that pushing the axis back to the heart of Berlin is no easy task however i should at least have a chance to advance to a new plane... but i cant play long enough to build the needed "Prestige points". Is there a strategy guide other than the excuse for a manual they give in PDF format? or has anyone actually won as the allies? ???

Fighter sweeps have the lowest impact on the outcome of the war.
Attack production centers whenever you get the opportunity.
Go behind supply areas and ground forces as often as you can.

i guess i will have to try more ground pounding, i agree that fighter sweeps have low impact however when i neglect to do them for perhaps 5 or 10 missions i find myself getting jumped by an armada of 190s.

To keep the allied advance going, you must always fly CAS missions whenever they are available nonstop until you have gone so far inland that it is very unlikely to be stopped.  CAS is also an excellent way to earn prestige, as there is always lots of other ground targets to shoot up.  I won the german campaign in Sept. '43 having  flown only 30 missions by doing this.

Thanks for the help guys, im getting used to this whole dynamic front line thing. Ill try more ground pounding. Maybe i was taking a too strategic approach to the game.
