Disappearing Rockets

The latest Air Battle game from Microsoft! Running on an entirely new platform, CFS3 is raising it's fair share of problems & opinions - Good & Bad!

Disappearing Rockets

Postby GeForce » Fri Aug 22, 2003 5:56 am

I have been playing CFS3 for a while now at a very slow 10 frames per second. Then I turned on the Z-Buffer and now I get 50+ fps. However since doing this I have noticed that when I fire a rocket, as soon as it gets near the ground it disappears! I cannot work out what is happening. Bombs work fine.

I am on XP Pro with an nVIDIA graphics card.

Anyone got any ideas?

Which card are you running? And also what are your other system specs?
When you say the rocket disappears, do you still get the explosion or not?

I have an nVIDIA TNT2 M64 card - not particularly good but it does the job.

256mb RAM

1Gb Swap File

1.3 Ghz Processor - again - does the job well.

Onboard Sound Card.

I don't always get the explosion - i do sometimes. And when I do it is delayed a few seconds.

??? ??? ??? ???

All I can think is that Z-Buffer did it. ;)

Try asking at www.sim-outhouse.com .  They're all CFS series experts there.  If we can't help, they probably can over there. ;)

Also, I could't find the Z-Buffer in my CFS3 Config.  Where is it so I can check it out?

1. Open CFS3 Config

2. Click File > Custom Settings (even if it is already checked)

3. Click OK on the warning.

4. Select Window > Overrides

5. Less than halfway down the 1st column is DUAL PASS RENDER. Under that is HIGH RESOLUTION Z-BUFFER.

6. You MUST turn off DUAL PASS RENDER before turning on HIGH RESOLUTION Z-BUFFER.

It gained me 40fps!

Hmmm...even with Dual Pass Render off, Z-Buffer still makes my sim look like it's on drugs. ::)

Is there something else you have to do in order to make it run properly?

Here's an example:

It won't go away even when I turn off Z-Buffer... ???...CFS3 is wierd, eh?  Looks like another reinstall for me. ::)

Very weird.

I turned Dual Pass render off, turned the Z-Buffer on and that solved all my problems.

Apart from those rockets ;) ???
