New to CFS3 - Strategies?

Hello all,

I am new to CFS3, I just bought it today.  I have been reading the forums and have seen how some like it and some don't like it.  Well, so far I like it.  The graphics to me look like an old colorised WW2 movie and I think that adds to the character.  So those that hate the game probably do not want to talk with me.  

Anyway, I am looking for some strategy tips.  I have read through the manual and have spent a few hours shooting down planes and blowing up stuff, but I need to know why?  Granted, I am trying to kill Hilters war machine or take over the world, depending on which side you are on.  I guess lets start with the map, does it matter if I do ground attack missions or fighter intercept?  When I start a campaign, why must I assume the identiy of someone?  Things like this.  So anyone have any tips that they would like to share.  Thanks you.....
