? Using downloads in CFS3

Postby Boxer » Thu Mar 06, 2003 8:58 am

Hello,
Over the last several days, I've downloaded a number of the P-47 files from the CFS3 panels. I've unzipped the files into my CFS3 Aircraft directory (as I used to do in CFS2 and CFS1) but I can't seem to use the planes in quick combat, missions, or campaigns. When I click on the 'Aircraft' button from any of the above, all I see are the default planes that were supplied with the game. Am I doing something wrong? Or is there something else that I need to do?
Thanks,
Boxer

Which files...and what did the "Read Me" that came with the files say?

I tried unzipping directly into CFS3 AIRCRAFT DIRECTLY and they never showed.I unzipped too desktop, then pasted the folder directly into aircraft folder. If memory serves me correctly it seems like some of mine unzippedcompletely on desktop, rather than in a folder.made a folder put the guts therein and pasted into aircraft folder. It seems they all showed up this way. There may be an easier way;but not a comp tech. ;D

You should be aware (even though many designers aren't) that many zip utilities don't maintain the proper file/folder relationships during compression. It is always a good idea to unzip to a seperate folder and ensure that everything is copacetic. :)

Hello,
My thanks to everyone that responded. I've found the problem and it appears to be the result of  PEBKAC...which in Tech. Support Speak means.."Problem Exists Between Keyboard And Chair". I found that I hadn't opened up the downloaded file far enough to get to what I'll call the 'base' files/folders. Once I got down into the file far enough, I was able to copy the aircraft folder into the CSF2 Aircraft directory, and the planes then appeared in the selection pull-down.
Thanks again!
