cfs3 causes crash and reboot

Postby raven52 » Sat Feb 22, 2003 6:21 am

system: HP pavilion 550n
            AMD Athlon 1.47 Ghz
            512 MB ram
           O/S XP Home
Graphics: Hercules 3D Prophest 6400 XT
               AGP mounted
               Kyros 64 MB chip set
               DX9 installed
Problem: when CFS3 loads, causes system reboot.
After reboot error window popup stated there
was a draw problem. This also occured with the puters onboard graphics enabled. D/L'd patch from cfsinsider site to no avail. Game will load in safe mode but with no sound. CFS2, Red Baron 3D, and many other games perform flawlessly
Can Anyone help?

I have the same problem, but different game and different card. I just got a Gforce4 Ti 4200, and it crashes and reboots with my NASCAR 2003 game. One thing I found out was my computer met all requirements except one. My computer has a 250 Watt power supply but the card needs a min. 300 watt  duel fan power supply or a 400 watt single fan. Now I have yet to get the new power supply, but I bet it will work. If anybody out there has had the same happen, and this power supply problem was it, let us know
BTW...it did improve both MSFS 2002 and CFS3...cant wait to see what it does with the correct hardware ;D

loomex, the Herc card I installed has a cooling fan, too.
I assume it's working. But now you've got me wondering. where did you find the info about incorrect power supply. What IS a power supply (ain't exactly a rocket scientist with puters) Mostly I know just enuff to be thououghly DANGEROUS.
Thanks

The power supply is where the power cord connects to the computer. It has a tranformer to "step-down" the voltage to something like 12 volts DC. The transformed puts out a certain amount of power, like a light bulb. Look at it like this; before you card was added, your "computer town" needed only a 250 watt power plant to light up the streets. Now this new guy moves in and he sucks up more than the power plant can make, hence you need a new power plant.

You should be able to look on the box and see what the card manufacturer recommends for power. Its in the same spot that says you need win 98 and up, at least "X"mb of hard drive space, a P2...etc

The card I have also has a cooling fan. I hope that this helps out
