help

this is annoying.  my system specs:

Athlon Thunderbird 1.4ghz
512MB PC2100 DDR
Geforce4 Ti4200 8x 128MB
120GB Western Digital 8MB Cache SE
Windows XP Pro
DirectX 9
latest Detonator Drivers

i have a nearly identical system, only diff is 100GB 2MB Cache drive

on both systems I get extremely stuttered (choppy) gameplay, at every resolution and detail level

i tried ALL the suggestions listed in 'Tweaks?' and it helped some, but I still get stutters at 800x600 with everything at detail level 1 (and i tried with terrain at 3, 4, and 5 as suggested in tweaks), although it is now better at 800x600 than at 1024x768

i can understand this might be a demanding game, but with my above specs i should AT LEAST be able to hit midlevel performance, i shouldnt be struggling to put out the ABSOLUTE MINIMUM performance

i have read many ppl on these forums have trouble with stuttering, are there any other fixes?

upgrading from DX 8.1 to 9 did nothing, upgrading from a GF2 MX to a GF4 4200 seemed to provide negligible improvement, wtf!

to make things even worse, when i try to do multiplayer (trying to play a LAN game):  on the 120GB system when i click multiplayer, the game crashes to the desktop.  on the 100GB system the game freezes when i click multiplayer, and although i can move mouse and hear sound, i cant end task and am forced to restart computer

way to go microsoft :/

i am running version 3.1 on both computers

need suggestions for eliminating the stuttering, and for getting multiplayer lan to work (or getting the multiplayer tab to work at all!).  please and thanks

Did you try to update the mobo drivers? especially the AGP drvers, I had a similar problem with my machine at slightly higher operating specs and the new mobo AGP drivers cleaned up alot of the stutters and problems, so give that a go and let us know how it worked
