Help for a Oldie in FS3

Postby Chris Lofty » Thu Feb 20, 2003 3:48 am

Any help for a silver surfer trying to relive their childhood!
I have been trying to get FS3 to work adequately on my system for weeks, I have tried all the suggested tweaks by microsoft but do not get above 15 to 26 fpm, it stutters and stops frequently, the frame rate hardly changes whatever I alter!
Is my system not up to it? Listed below is what I have and what I've done.
HP Pavilion 750uk
Pent4-1.6Ghz
256MB increased to 768 DDR-SDRAM
60GB Ultra DMA HD
NVIDIA Geforce2 MX400 64MB Video card

I have downloaded the 3.1 Patch, added the latest Nvidia drivers, have Direct X 9.0, I turn off all other programmes including Virus software.

Am I expecting too much from my system? I have already spent money increasing my RAM, what more can I do.

Any assistance or suggestions will be much appreciated, but please remember I am no technical whizz, so please keep it easy!
Thanks for looking
Chris

It may be your video card which could be slowing it down

I basically have the same hardware and video board. I get about the same frame rates. Newest Nvidia driver etc.

Mine doesn't stutter though. It does if I have clouds on though. I keep clouds at their lowest setting, and probably average 19 or 20 fps.

Thanks for the replies and advice, I will try turning the clouds down as suggested.
I just wonder why others appear to get far better results with similar or lower spec equipment!
I don't really want to spend more money on a new Video card, doubling my RAM has been more than enough outlay for me!

Well, I like the game a lot. So.... I'm just gonna buck up for the new GeForce 4/FX. Beats blowin the money sittin in a bar.

I do turn the clouds up for just cruisin and practicing. Figure if I'm fightin, I'm not payin attention to clouds. Although, I have heard your'e supposed to be able to hide in clouds, although I have not heard confirmation.

Good Luck

Try this:

get Direct x 9
update your video drivers... make sure to get "Detonator Destroyer" to remove all your previous nvidia drivers.
get the patch... then go to this site... worked wonders for me

Hope this helps
