I tried to unzip and install the CFS 3.1 No CD file and I get an error message "common.dll could not be found". The 3.0 No CD file worked just fine for me before the patch. No, I am not  a windows know it all but the other No CD file worked just fine. Can anyone give me some tech help on this. By the way my OS is WIN 98! Thanks in advance.

If what you are trying to install is a cfs 3 exe . You copy
and paste it into your cfs 3 main folder it will overwrite
the original. Thats what I had to do I tried clicking on
it and got to same error. Before you do this you may
want to backup your original it looks like a black target
with a red 3 in the middle.

Several members in this and other forums have mentioned a no_cd.exe.
Please can you tell me where I can get it?

Thanks for not telling me. I am therefore unable to confirm that it reverted me back to 3.0.

I cannot advise you, or anyone else, to snoop around simaviation.com/cfs3misc1.htm for a more satisfactory version.

Crikeys !! this is such a disaster...again I say to those who say Warez , I have seen what happens to cd's, and the crack is my way of saving money having to "buy again" the game, to stay active. but now the problem is way worse than ever ! some have the patch, some dont, some use the crack , and cant join those that dont, or cant join the games , that dont have the patch...AAARRRRGGGGG!!! , think this is gonna get worse before it gets better.
to patch or not, whats the difference... can join in ...lets just screw this all up worse than it is, and make all games incompatitable ! like trying to run a Mac , when you only know the old Keypuch system from back in the 60's ! ( yes , some of us remember that stuff)  
why cant we all just get along ?  I worked over my cfs3.0 till I had a sweet running game, then they come out with a "PATCH" ... now we all have these different versions,  why cant we fly "together ? mismatched planes , protocol errors, ... miss the good old stutter days already !!!

get help david... the issue for me is with getting into multiplayer games.
what good is a multiplayer game , w/o real players  to test your steel against.
otherwise may as well play some kiddy game. you have no idea . nothing against the AI in this game, but that human element in multiplayer is where the fun is.

I agree, but I'm just a beginner, and I need some basic training first. At present I'm still in the 'free flight' stage, with unlimited everything. In spite of this I haven't yet succeeded in shooting down any enemy a/c. They're always behind me, and by the time I've turned they've vanished
I've manged to strafe friendly airfields and other ground targets very satisfactorily however

David, since our conversation has gone this far.. i'd be happy to expalin more. **email me:raaf453_shep@juno.com  ***  and I'll send you what I have  on a great game. I fly all 3 CFS , but want to specialize on 3. I am the CO @ the 453rd.
453squadron.homestead.com  what I rant here about is this strange patch/crack/no mulitplayer, with or without either. when the game was first released, I got my copy... spent many days/nights tweaking it , to a great game, even on my dial up.
I like the "idea" of a patch. and I like the cd crack, as I use one for the other CFS games I fly. 2 yrs and before the crack was explained to me, had bought 2 copies of the games. ( scratches from in /out/ and others in my house @ the computer desk, w/o a clue how much tossing the disc , did in damage ! )
but today in cfs3. !! ? !! there isnt a way to fly , unless all have the exact same planes, or patch,or crack, or some combination of all that, want some idea of the possibilities of getting to join a room in 3 today ?
How many ways can you install this on 1 PC ? do I have to now , buy a new HD  to load all the variables, and then guess which one I need to play in a certain room ?
IT MUST BE A PLOT BY TERRORISTS !!!

I'm not really interested in multiplay at the present time, so if you don't mind I'll take a raincheck.

My main interest has always been the FS series. I started with FS5, am now on FS2002, and waiting eagerly for the next one due soon. Never once have I been tempted into multiplay. Of course FS is no shoot 'em up, and is quite different from CFS.
